I'm not an expert but I'm pretty confident that this trail is wheelchair accessible from the trailhead all the way to the stairs down to the beach. The trail has had some major "grooming" in the past year and it's now over 3 feet wide with hard-packed moderately-sized gravel.

As of today, 2021/02/27, the trail is open all the way to the beach.

The hike from the parking lot to the beach, round-trip, is 1.5 miles of flat gravel path and wide bridges. Not exerting at all but pleasant, with shade from deciduous trees when they're leafed out. We saw Pacific Wrens and a nuthatch of some kind but we forgot the binoculars so the serious bird-watching will have to wait 'til next time. The rocky beach was very pretty.

The parking lot can hold about 20 cars. There is a PortaPotty at the trahilhead, but sadly, vandals had overturned it on the...

The fields just east of the Nature Reserve are great for a good stroll or letting your dog off leash. It's also a great kite flying location with no kite obstructions. About another 200 yards from were I was is about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile paved, unused road. All of which is part of the BP blast / green buffer zone. Others who we come across are all very responsible and respectful dog owners. Leash up whenever you come across others on the road. This field and paved road are accessed through three different locations. One is from the Point Whitehorn Nature Reserve parking lot, the second is 1/2 before you get to the Nature Reserve parking and the third is accessed from the BP side through a small parking east of...

This is a hidden gem. My wife and I come here periodically and often have the place to ourselves. A well-maintained footpath through diverse wooded area leads to high-bank views overlooking the Straight of Georgia and views of the San Juan Islands. On the footpath keep an eye out for a local family of Barred Owls and for Pileated Woodpeckers. At the end of the footpath you can descend the bank to the rocky beach where you're almost certain to find harbor seals lounging on boulders. Leave Rover at home - dogs are not allowed. (Designated as a...
