Beautiful area, what some people might call "God's country". Driving up 168 toward Lake Sabrina you feel like you are in the Swiss Alps, the enormous open canyon, the towering snow-capped peaks, in fall, the wonderful yellows and oranges and reds in the trees make this a scenic paradise. There are three main roads that take you up the canyon, 168 which goes to Lake Sabrina, North Lake Road, which is a gravel road right on the edge of a cliff in spots (NOT for the faint of heart!) and takes you to North Lake/Piute Pass area, and South Lake Rd, which takes you to...you guessed it, South Lake. All three of these destinations are major hiking and backpacking trailheads, taking you into the heart of the very best parts of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
