The photos are nice, but anyone who makes it to the top of the Pinnacle hike is not allowed over the boundary wall at the top. Being off the trail, climbing on rocks off trail, and out on the big rocks outside the boundary wall at the pinnacle is illegal and people’s activities are ruining/killing the ice-age relic rare plants that grow outside that boundary. Please do not post or repost any pictures of people doing this so as not to encourage further misbehavior. NPS volunteers are patrolling the area now to make sure people honor the always-existent rules of staying within the boundary. Also fines are...

Great little hike for a spectacular "King of the World" view at the peak- would be even better during blooming season. Lots of bees on the trail, and lots of harmless little beetles at the top (not ticks :) ) The man at the visitors center said it is a "moderate- strenuous hike"... If you are 18 it is an easy hike. If you are 50, and your knees like to complain, it will be harder, as it is very uphill. If you are out of shape, you will need a few breaks, but you can do it, it is worth it. The 0.7 mi. trail is in good shape. Bring a camera for the view and an epipen if you are...

For us flatlanders, it was a smooth but windy road to get here from Asheville. And even though it was cloudy, we were still glad we made the drive. The visitor center was closed but the view was incredible. There were some gnats when we visited in late May, and a few bees, but otherwise insects were negligible. If you're in the area, I recommend stopping for a short hike or just to take in the view and some fresh air. Also, the trailhead to the peak is just on the other side of the tunnel, less than a half mile farther up the road. A very easy hike to the top from that parking...

A beautiful hike! Great 360-view at the top. Estimate 1-2 hours round-trip, depending on your speed and how long to stop to take in the views. The trail starts off fairly level with a slight incline, then it turns to a more moderate incline with natural steps of rock and tree roots. Toward the pinnacle it gets a little more steep for a tenth of a mile or so (similar to a staircase as far as grade). The view is beautiful! During peak season do not expect quiet and solitude at the pinnacle. We were there during the fall peak and had to wait for an opening along the edges of the viewing area.
