The photos are nice, but anyone who makes it to the top of the Pinnacle hike is not allowed over the boundary wall at the top. Being off the trail, climbing on rocks off trail, and out on the big rocks outside the boundary wall at the pinnacle is illegal and people’s activities are ruining/killing the ice-age relic rare plants that grow outside that boundary. Please do not post or repost any pictures of people doing this so as not to encourage further misbehavior. NPS volunteers are patrolling the area now to make sure people honor the always-existent rules of staying within the boundary. Also fines are...
Read moreGreat little hike for a spectacular "King of the World" view at the peak- would be even better during blooming season. Lots of bees on the trail, and lots of harmless little beetles at the top (not ticks :) ) The man at the visitors center said it is a "moderate- strenuous hike"... If you are 18 it is an easy hike. The visitor center was closed but the view was incredible. There were some gnats when we visited in late May, and a few bees, but otherwise insects were negligible. If you're in the area, I recommend stopping for a short hike or just to take in the view and some fresh air. Also, the trailhead to the peak is just on the other side of the tunnel, less than a half mile farther up the road. A very easy hike to the top from that parking...
