I appreciate the selection, of kids clothes esp, but prices for things are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!! ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY GET EVERYTHING FOR FREE! Bought my daughter a winter coat, paid like $5 for it. It was a little dirty but nice enough. A couple days later went to SALVATION ARMY && found a super nice, looked new, winter coat for my daughter & paid $1 for it. Selection wasn't as great but based on prices, I won't be taking my donations to Goodwill anymore when they are going to charge more than stuff is worth. Some people can't afford it or we wouldn't be shopping these places to start with! Salvation Army had things priced how Goodwill SHOULD be but apparently doesn't operate under the same basic understanding of a THRIFT STORE, or SOMEWHERE for the LESS FORTUNATE TO BUY (nice) things. & Tbh maybe not even the same code of ethics & morals. I was told by an employee that they don't even get a discount. The excuse that the money goes towards jobs is just that, an excuse. Ive received a lot more help & gained every bit of knowledge & resources I have, thru these other places that offer the same services for free. If Goodwill wants to sell things at a " competitive price" then they should be in the regular retail market selling new things. Everybody knows that something used (or even new, once it's left the store) it's automatically half off. And if people received money for their donations (like Plato's Closet) I could maybe understand the high prices & the excuse abt taking care of people's things. But when people just literally dump stuff off to donate & all the while knowing there is a chance that some of their items could be completely discarded and thrown into the dumpster, I don't think those donations come with the assumption that they will be taking extra special care of their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt seems like a lot of the prices at this Goodwill in Black Mountain are higher than others. Especially lately. Last week I was interested in buying some boots that needed quite a bit of TLC. Outsole was worn with heal needing to be replaced the leather had small tears and they were priced over $50.00. I checked with SM and she said that's the price. I looked them up on GB shoes and they were Brand New for $89.00. Just seems they would be a better price because of the terrible shape they were in. But today was absurd and the reason I am writing this review. I was browsing the store and saw 4 brand new Duracell Powermats. (for Iphone4/4s) I had just bought the exact same one a week ago from Amazon. I paid $25 for the same exact model . Goodwill has it priced at $50.50 each. I thought for sure it was a mistake. I tried to let the manager know but she told me they don't make mistakes on prices and she would not double check it for me. I assured her I don't want to buy it I just wanted to let her know I thought it was priced incorrectly. She told me I was wrong and the price is 100% correct. So I guess the Goodwill thrift store in Black Mounting is charging more the twice the amount the suggested retail???? I am glad there are other thrift stores for me to shop. An added note other than the Manager the associates have always been VERY nice. But that store needs a good cleaning and needs to be better organized like the other Goodwill's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMost items overpriced for what they are. Would you seriously pay $45 for a used blender? How about $15 for a used toilet seat? $10 for a mug? Whoever is pricing this stuff needs to get a grip. Lots of broken and dirty knicknacks. It would really help the vibe of this place if they weeded out all the trash and priced things to sell because this is a tonedeaf joke.
Yes goodwill is a nonprofit, but so is Mountain Home. Just look at the difference. Thatās not a good excuse. You can price an item super high and hope a naive person buys it, or you could price everything appropriately and actually sell items rather than let them gather dust and bad reviews. This is a no-brainer! In the time it takes to sell one $50 speaker from 1997, you could sell 5 useful items for $10, and have room for 5x more stuff that people actually want to buy. Price to sell, not to sit! Cāmon. Look at your reviews and ask yourself- is this a sustainable business model? Is this helping the community?
Pretty good place to get clothes though, Iāll...
