Sipapu Bridge is a natural bridge or arch located in the Natural Bridges National Monument in central San Juan County, Utah. The bridge spans White Canyon. Sipapu Bridge’s current name is Hopi for “place of emergence,” or the opening through which Hopi ancestors entered this world. To hike down to the bridge is 1.4 miles (return) with about 440 ft elevation change. That elevation change is experienced using three wooden ladders, one long set of metal stairs, wood stairs, rock stairs, and switchbacks. Read moreSipapu Bridge is one of the highlights of Natural Bridges National Monument ($10 per vehicle). We much enjoyed Sipapu Bridge. In addition to this being a nice land formation to see from the viewpoint, there is an interesting hike down to the riverbed and canyon floor where you can see this giant natural bridge structure from the ground level.
We particularly enjoyed the stairs and ladder sections used as you scramble along slick rock and moderately challenging sections of the trail. Views of Sipapu are impressive throughout. We enjoyed taking photos from different vantage points as we descended and then climbed back out...
Read moreSipapu was the first of the three natural bridges on the loop drive. I got there early. The sun just started to come up over the mountains. Before stopping at the parking lot to the trail, I stopped to view this bridge on the rim of the canyon. The view was already exciting. I walked down the trail to the overview point then decided to hike down. The round trip was less than 1.5 miles. There were two or three ladders along the way but nothing too difficult.
