It was a nice experience. I personally love the outdoors. My fiancée is a true Miami guy and he even enjoyed it himself. It was a nice walking trail and the cabin was nice and cozy. For those of you who don’t know, bring your own fitted sheets, pillow & blankets. There is a fire pit which you are able to use freely, they ve firewood available on site along with ice for less than $5 (bring cash as it’s cash only). The registration office is always open and there are games and movies located inside along with a small gallery of informational stuff. At night if you sit outside you can see a million starts and you could even hear all the animals. There was also a little playground available on site.

Things recommended to bring for first timers Towel for when you shower Shower sandals Body Wash / Soap Pillows Fitted Sheets (I used a queen size) Blanket to cover yourself Fire Log Stuff for s’mores ! (Don’t forget the stick for the marshmallow (We ended up getting one of the garden stakes at dollar tree to use)) Bug spray Sunblock Shoes ! Coal if you want to use the bbq grill A cooler with ice in it ! Water Sandals/crocs to put on easily when you want to walk around the campsite & to go to the bathroom ! Hat to protect you from the sun when you’re walking on the trails A neck fan if this is your first time and you’re not sure how you’ll deal with the Florida heat

Something that is optional also is a walking stick, it is not needed but recommended. my fiancĂŠe had an easy time going down but going up he wished he had one

You are not along at night either, there is a ranger on duty and you will be provided a number to his/her cell...

We absolutely love this State Park. We live in western New York but enjoy travelling, camping and hiking throughout the U.S. We visited this park about 15 years ago and this year we decided to come back. There have been dramatic and devastating changes in the park since we were last there because the park is located within a path frequented by intense storms in the last decade, including Hurricane Michael in 2018, which damaged all of the forests in the park. Despite these challenges, park staff have made amazing efforts to make sure that park visitors can safely visit as much of the park as possible. The campground is great, with spotless bathrooms and water and electric outlets in most sites. We stayed in one the two yurts, which offer a delightful deck with a picnic table, a campfire ring and a gorgeous view into the adjacent forested ravine. We went on the 6-mile challenge hike and were impressed with the work the park has done to make the trails passable despite the many trees that fell during the hurricane. We thought the trail was great as it meandered back and forth through so many beautiful and interesting plant communities giving the hiker a real sense of adventure. Some of the bridge crossings over small streams still need to be repaired and may look intimidating but this 64-year old woman with advanced arthritis in both knees had no trouble getting across any of them. If you don't like an adventure, however, this might not be the best trail for you as stated in the park's description of the trail. We found all of the park staff to be friendly, helpful and hardworking. Please thank them for all they do if you...

Undulation! Most of Florida is so flat, I didn't think I would find a walk with lots of ups & downs, but this is it! We've been twice. The loop on the Western side has lovely river views. The other loop (the "challenge trail") was great exercise. I carried my 12 month old in a sling for the whole challenge trail and that really increased how much exercise I got! Big scary sign saying it'll take 6 hours. Took us more like 3.5 hours with our youngest hiker only 10 years old. Challenge trail was somewhat lacking in views, but we're still very glad we did it, and will probably do it again.

Also, there's a historic house with a lovely view over the river.

Ticks: We sprayed exposed skin and around the ends of pant legs and sleeves with picaridin bug spray. Maybe it was the picaridin, maybe it was the time of year, or maybe we got lucky, but we found no ticks on any of us, not on our first visit, nor on our second, but given the warnings from others about ticks, I would not hike here without picaridin or some other bug spray.

I'm delighted friends recommended this park to us. It's certainly not "amazing", but we like it and plan to return! 5 stars.

Oh, and there's a clean and well provisioned toilet block (aka "bathroom", but no baths or showers), big picnic shelters, and a nice playground for younger children.

📍 Torreya State Park | Florida This park seems small when you first drive through, but it has miles of beautiful hiking trails and topography. Beware 🚩 this park is a hot spot for venomous snakes! If you bring a pup, be sure to keep them on a leash. Encountering snakes here are not IF, but when. 🐍 #hiking #dogsofttiktok #florida
