We visited Oak Savanna Learning Center for the Wildlife Festival and were really impressed. The staff led us through fascinating presentations about falcons, snakes, owls, and more, and we learned so much about the animals and the surrounding nature. The guided sessions were engaging and educational even for kids. Trails around the center are well maintained and a great place for nature lovers or hikers.

Not a visitor center. Such a waste of a nice looking building with a big parking lot and is only open by appointment or to schools. It does have some well groomed hiking trails.

Beautiful walk around by the lakes. This area is typically less busy than other areas of the wildlife refuge and is very quiet and peaceful

Didn’t get to go into the building as it is available only by appointment or for school groups, but the information stand has useful brochures and signage and fun facts about the wildlife, plants and local area. Very easy to walk on trails with an abundant amount of opportunities to view blooming prairie flowers up close and personal, like the Leadplant, Butterfly weed, Prairie Clover, Common Milkweed and more. During our visit we did venture into the section near the beaver pond that passes under oak trees and the flies were incessant and quite bothersome unfortunately, but a refuge employee told us that all the flies will die in approx. 2-3 weeks from the date I’m posting this review. Good to know as I want to come back and enjoy the...

Some nice crushed gravel trails here. Enjoyed a peaceful walk late in the day and didn’t encounter anyone else out. There are a couple spots to watch the ducks & geese. Not sure if the bathrooms at the learning center are open year round, but it’s always a...
