No swimming here; keep eye out alligators; nice picnic area with clean portapotty. Big size benches near water for taking in the breeze off the lake and the beauty of this area in Southport about 10 miles from Brunswick Forest.

Amazing spot. Beautiful and spacious. Just be careful, we encountered a rather large alligator in the water. They do have signs indicating this.

Living in BSL most of my life, this lake has been the lake I go to when I want to go take a dip or entertain my kids, as well as utilize the picnic area for bday parties. Only thing that would make each visit better would be if I could bring dog! (no pets allowed of any kind) However, a couple days ago my kids and I stopped in the cool off from a very hot day and 2 ladies pointed out a alligator that was about 10-15ft from shore. note: no one else was in the water so I believe the gator was just looking for dinner as he was swimming in circles then later went beneath the water and...

The view was pretty but the water itself was not. I haven't been there since I was a little kid but I sure do remember the water looking a lot different. The water was covered with a blackish green film on top. It reflected in the sun the same way gas does when it lays on top of the water and people were still swimming in it with their children. It even seemed to have an odor to it and I noticed multiple flies near the dirt and soil. I'm no expert but I was cautious. We live in a different time. We actually do have to pay attention to the quality of water that we are...

Beautiful spot! Plenty of free parking and grassy areas in sun or shade. Two shelters with tables and a couple of port-a-potties. No beach to speak of. Bring your coolers because there's not much close by. The lake itself was super warm today, but with the heat index over 100, it was still a refreshing swim. Not crowded at all, but the people there were friendly and cool neighbors. I feel like I've wasted the 20-ish years I've lived in the Wilmington and Leland areas without ever having been to any of the BSL parks. The whole family is in love and we...
