This was our 1st time visiting this campground and I was not happy with our site#28, it's more for a pop up. We have a 27ft 5th wheel and extended cab pickup, both vehicles could not fit on site, backed up as far as we could, the back of pad the asphalt was all buckled due to huge tree root and couldn't level RV correctly, hooked RV to electric and our air wasn't working right, just wasn't cooling nor blowing, so we thought the whole weekend our air was out, when we returned home we plugged our RV up and it was working just fine, so the outlet there must be faulty, have just enough electric to use fans and lights but not air..most of all the site behind us was really really too close, it was so close you could hear their onversations almost whispering at most. we had our dogs on very short leads and pretty confined, also the water spigot is right next to the picnic table and everybody that came to fill up were always apologizing to us for using it. It was everyone's to share just not ours..this is a very busy spot for the water usage. Overall the campground was nice but those 2 sites are horrible. Bathrooms nicely kept and showers too. Wanted to get away for relaxation and it wasnt. This site is maybe good for friends getting together and being close, we was given a map of the campground and we walked it and circled all the sites that would be nice to have...
Read moreI went to St. Francois State Park with family for a weekend of camping and floating and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You can buy small bundles of wood ($4) and ice ($2/bag) at the campground. My only complaint is that the bathroom closest to our campsite was horrible, mostly because of the flies swarming around the toilet. The main bathhouse was fine, but it was a far walk when ya gotta go. We had a great time on the float trip. We floated from the park to Cherokee Landing. Word of advice: Do not try to bring your own tubes or raft and exit the river from the Cherokee Landing ramp; you will be charged to use the ramp. We brought our own tubes, but paid at Cherokee Landing before departing from the park ($5/person). The river was a little crowded, but it was July 4th weekend. Except for some areas that were so shallow we had to walk a bit to keep from dragging the river bottom, it was a great float. Because it is a shallow river and doesn't have a strong current I felt comfortable letting our teens go ahead of us to do their own thing. The campground was peaceful and we really enjoyed our time there. We had spot #86 and #88, which were close to a water spigot. Both sites are slightly sloped, #86 has more shade but the picnic table is in the sun in the afternoon. We had a great time and will...
Read moreLet me start off by saying the park itself is beautiful. Today is our last day of 11 days camping here. The campsites are on top of each other. The vault toilets are FULL and have been since we got here. The hot showers are COLD. We actually ended up driving 30 minutes to get a hot shower. We are down here for work and I get to the campground after work at 12:30 am. Last night when I got back to the park, the gate code had been changed. It was pouring down rain and I had to walk the approximately 2 miles to the campground and wake the camp hosts to get my vehicle into the campground. My fiance was at the campsite all night and camp hosts drove by numerous times but didn't think to stop and let us know despite knowing I work late. There are literally only a handful of campers here right now since it's during the week and stormy so it wouldn't have taken them much to let us know. I will not be returning to camp at this park. If you're looking at campgrounds please save yourself the trouble and choose somewhere else, I...
