A beautiful refuge in a gorgeous part of the country. I took the trail up to Myrtle Falls. The falls themselves are a bit hard to see due to trees but it was a pleasant short hike. The auto loop has a very well maintained road with a few wide spots. In all honesty the best time to visit isn't middle of the summer as there was virtually no waterfowl to be seen. My next visit will be for the fall bird migration when birds should be plentiful. All in all I had a nice visit.

Very beautiful area though not much to see at the reserve itself. Some interesting wildlife, such as beavers and deer, and a good variety of birds, osprey, bald eagles, peregrine falcon, pheasants, and many more Canadian geese than can be counted. Can recommend Myrtle Falls trail and the Kootenay River running nearby. The nearby river also has a great place to camp for free. Highly recommended.

This was more enjoyable than I expected. Granted, my mother gave my kids monetary incentive to spot specific wildlife, my kids had a great time as did I doing this loop. I also discovered the Myrtle Creek Falls nearby. Very short trail but beautiful once you get to the falls. It's a good workout. Not too difficult but not super easy for those of us out of shape. 😉

Parked in downtown Bonner’s Ferry and biked the loop and back today with the kids. Spring weather was fantastic and we relaxed halfway at the education center which was really cool and had some interactive exhibits. Views of the Selkirk mountains were stunning. There were some Boy Scouts coming off the Myrtle Falls hike that were doing some nature activities along the pond pathway. We biked up Westside Rd. to the Cascade Pond Overlook before riding back to the loop and finishing on the gravel ‘auto tour’ section and then back into town. Next time would love to bike further north along Westside Rd. as it meanders next to Kootenay River and is absolutely...

This is a beautiful place to visit. You have to be careful right now because there have been cougar sightings. We actually saw a young moose at one of the vehicle turnouts. Of course we did not get out of the car. They can be very aggressive! But he was up close and personal, and rubbing up against the wooden fence for quite a while. I wondered where Mommy was... I'll post a picture of him shortly. And there were was a bald eagle pair nested in the trees as we drove into the park. Good bathroom...
