We had been looking for a local CSA that is something more than just locally grown produce; we were looking for a community where we could participate and be part of the overall process that puts healthy food on our table; and also a place where we could teach our daughter about where food really comes from. Chris and Marci at Trogg's Hollow have created an environment that allows us as share-holders to participate in the entire process of growing chemical-free, locally grown produce - members can volunteer to assist and participate in any and all aspects of the growing and delivery of produce!! Trogg's Hollow also hosts several summer pot-luck events where other local farmers and producers of organic products participate with on-site demonstrations of all aspects of wholesome farming from seeding to canning, CSA members bring their own yummy recipes, and local musicians show off their talents - the kids go off on all sorts of farm adventures, exploring the chicken coop and barns. All in all, we were very happy to find Trogg's Hollow, as they provide us with community experience we had been looking for, in addition to great...
Read moreTroggs Hollow is not just a random farm to me. Marcy and Chris lived here in Elgin, before they got their awesome new farm and land in Poplar Grove, and lived and breathed farming by having gardens in their Elgin backyard and even renting land. It was a philosophy of life they chose to live out and one there shared with me as I got to know them through the Downtown Elgin Harvest Market. My husband and I had been desiring a CSA for awhile but could never afford the money upfront to participate. Chris and Marcy had various payment plans which helped us to join and take advantage of their great greens, learn more of what it takes to farm in this area, and to have the pride of supporting two awesome people (with four awesome kids) who feel strongly about educating and living out growing safe and delicious food. This will be our third year with Troggs Hollow and we look forward to growing with them...
Read moreOur first season with Trogg's Hollow was spent trying to figure out what to do with all of these delicious vegetables and especially greens. We were also trying some foods for the first time. Season two we got really good at cleaning, storing and using what we received every week. By season three it was no longer a question of what to do with these foods but what the good, organic food had done to us! Today our diet revolves around an abundance of greens and vegetables all year round-- probably three times what we ate when we started. The best comparison I can make is, it's like expanding your vocabulary except it's with food. Thank you Trogg's Hollow, you guys are wonderful! It's always good food from these good...
