This place was unexpectedly awesome! I had no idea what to expect and it was wonderful. Sign up for one of the free daily ranger-guided tours (that's the only way to see the flints), because it's amazing- a hidden gem in the middle of the Texas panhandle. The flints are every color of the rainbow and there's a ton of cultural history here as well as really interesting geology. Definitely worth a stop. I had a really wonderful tour with Ranger Elaine, she was awesome.

Small national monument. If you want to actually see the quarry, you need to book in advance. However we went during the summer and the tour was cancelled due to the heat. If you are visiting Lake Meredith, its worth a visit, but not worth making a special trip for. There is not much other than the visitor center and the quarry, though there are a few hiking trails, such as down to the lake, but that has receded quite a bit.

Lake Meredith and Alibates are basically the same NPS unit. The Alibates visitor center is well off the beaten path, and pretty small, but the area is beautiful and they have interesting interpretive displays and a movie worth watching. The center itself is well maintained and staffed with very friendly rangers. Several trails throughout the area to explore.

We had so much fun! Ranger Elaine was a wonderful guide and we learned a lot from our hike to the quarries with her! It was a great family outing. Bring lots of water to drink, I ended up being light headed from the hike in the heat but we were able to take breaks on the way up and down to drink and soak in some shade. Highly recommend this to anyone who loves history and learning about the early people who lived...
