After hearing about the recent opening of this BLM managed set of trails we came to check it out. Parking was almost full on a Wednesday at 11:30. Perhaps still novelty factor. We just did the lower Hawk Trail and enjoyed some nice views. There was one tree offering shade on the entire loop, this part is really low lying scrub and exposed. Besides the cows we didn’t really see any animal activity. A fairly regular procession of bikes to deal with while hiking, but everyone seemed to be courteous sharing the trail. Read moreGot a chance to check out the three different loops… Easy medium and hard. They each start out with full exposure w the Pacific breeze on the left. The medium trail winds through the trees and slowly ascends where there trail divides and the harder route gives way to some quick elevation gain, but a great view on top.
Beware of cyclists as this is a challenging but rewarding experience. So they said as they went by!
There are clean restrooms and you need to get there early for parking as there doesn’t seem to be any...

Bathrooms available in the gravel parking lot. Three (3) picnic tables, no grills. No shade. Chunky gravel is not very stroller or wheelchair friendly.
