The magic is gone

This has always been one of our favorite parks, and we were willing to drive 2-3 hours out of the way to visit when in southern Utah.

However, they have just remodeled and taken away what made it magical and memorable.  It previously had replicas and more interesting items inside, but now is nothing more than a generic museum style layout/feel.  There is also no video showing (still in remodel, so possibly in the future but so no area for one).  Wish they would make it more unique and fun like it was before and not as generic as it now feels.

Not in relation to the park itself, but the food truck has changed and is VERY expensive.  There used to be a taco truck that was fairly affordable.  Now, there is a more "authentic" Navajo taco place.  Don't get me wrong, we absolutely love fry bread, but 2 of them (desert and meal one) will set you back over 30 bucks.  At least they are a decent size and taste very good.

Only recommend if you are in the area, but we won't go out of our way to revisit again.

The only part they have going for them now is they are near the most beautiful part of Escalante drive, which we will go out of our way to hit.  That area is "The Hogback" which is driving over top of the mountain/Mesa with a cliff on both sides and the bright beautiful rocks. ...

Fantastic place to stop 50 mins south of Torrey on the scenic highway 12 between Capitol Reef and Bryce. The models of the pueblo stone room buildings were great for the kids to explore after seeing the cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde. They also offer a state parks Junior Ranger program which the kids love doing to each a badge.

The only problem (really a VERY BIG problem according to my son) was that they do not have a model of the pit house you can explore. They only have a really neat display model inside as well as a model outside, but you can't physically explore either of them. This is a GLARING omission that we spent 45 minutes quite upset trying to brainstorm solutions to calm down.

In the end our visit was fantastic and EVEN THOUGH we couldn't actually explore a pit house, the kiddos really enjoyed all the inside and outside displays, and it was a GREAT way to break up the drive between the parks.

P.S. to any doubters about driving HWY 12... I highly recommend it... We enjoyed all the different terrain and they are freshly paving most of it so the drive...

We visited during late March of 2021 while on a spring break trip with my kids. It was a great stop during our Highway 12 adventure that day driving from Torrey to Tropic. The museum is small but filled with some cool artifacts, and my kids loved the hands on activities. Outside there is a replica of an Anasazi dwelling and my kids LOVED going in it and climbing all over. On the grounds there is also the footings of an ancient group of dwellings that are under canopies. It was neat to see history of the area and be reminded of the ancient ones who lived there long ago. It was a great stop, and a very fair price of admission for the family. Probably don't need to stop there again anytime soon, but definitely worth checking out...

We stopped here to check out the ruins and the museum. The museum had more than we expected, and included some really neat artifacts - even a replica of what inside a pit house would look like. They have a junior ranger program for kids 14 and under. Our 11yo had to finish before we could leave so she could say she did it (and she got a fun junior ranger pin). The ruins were cool to look at, but not super expansive. We walked away learning a lot about the people who lived in this area centuries before. Definitely worth the trip out here.

Awesome small museum that shares the history of the local indigenous peoples. The place is well maintained and the entrance fee is super reasonable. The exhibits are informative and you see some amazing history. The outside exhibit is interesting as it shows the remains of living dwellings. They have a nice food truck in the parking lot and a little field with a play ground for kids. It was a good time.
