I entered the area from the north,[ HI way 71 from S. Dakota]. I took the first gravel road, marked to toadstools area. This was a 12 mile trip on gravel roads that were marginal at best. It was the middle of May and the road had several soft spot in it, probably frost boils from the last winter. It was dry enough to kick up dust, so I wasn't to worried. I was pulling a 20' converted cargo trailer/camper with a 2 wheel drive pickup. I made it to toadstool with no problems. I camped there for the night. During the night it started to rain. It continued all night. I left the next morning, in the rain, towards Ft. Robinson . This was a disastrous 13 miles of mud road. Some how I made it back to the hard road, [fishtailing all the way], pulling my trailer like a boat anchor]. I was a nervous wreck by the time I hit the blacktop. I truly enjoyed the area, but would not attempt it ever again, in wet weather [I had no cell service in this area for 3 days, so I could not check the weather radar.] The road looked to be gravel. Respect the private land and owners, even though they don't respect you (had a bad experience again this season).
