This 37.76 acre park was the brainchild of the Greater Boynton Beach Foundation, a nonprofit group that raised $2.5 million to create a barrier free park for disabled people. Foundation chairman John McGovern is a retired educator. He has said "The dream I have is for children of all ability levels to play together in this park. " In 2005, the United Way, United Cerebral Palsy, Lions Club, American Red Cross, The ARC and Deaf Service Center were invited to submit design suggestions for the park. In 2010 the first phase of the project was completed. On January 21, 2012, the park officially opened.
The park is designed in a Florida swamp theme. There is a spider free form play structure, splash pad, and another play area in a fishing camp theme. The two play areas are connected by stream bed that has rocks, spray misters, water, and nature. Other trails in the park lead to different sensory experiences. The playground equipment is not like any you have ever seen before. You might recognize the swings but other pieces have to be tried out to see what they do. There is equipment to spin you while others challenge your balance.
Other park features include solar panels, restored wetlands, a picnic area, restrooms, a walking trail, and tennis courts. In 2015 a fit zone with outdoor exercise equipment was also added.
I just happened to discover this park by chance and was amazed. This is the kind of playground every town should have, one that includes everyone. This park makes it possible for a child in a wheelchair to swing or go up the play structure. I work with special needs students and the their ability to interact with other children is very important to them. This park has play structures that everyone can enjoy. No one is left on the sidelines watching everyone else get to play while they can't take part. This is exactly the way parks should be built. Well done...
Read moreIt’s a fun clean park. The splash pad needs a little work. They just put up a hug brand new play area. I have to say though I was super excited about it and a little disappointed as to what they built. My kids get board with it rather quickly. They have this really rocky area in the middle of the play areas that really needs to be taken away. It’s not safe for toddlers that are constantly trying to climb it. I love the fake grass areas for little crawlers to crawl around while moms can chit chat with friends. They have some cool swings and a lot of bench areas for many people to sit and relax while their little ones run and play. They have a unique play area for older kids. Filled with things to climb, lots of ropes. I’m torn between giving this place 3 stars or 4 stars. It has the potential to be really awesome. I just think it needs a little work reviving parts of it and their new structure fell...
Read moreMy kids and I went to this park today for a play date and I was impressed! I’ve been to the tennis courts before nearby but had no idea about the park tucked back in. It was very well taken care of and had a lot of different things for the kids to do. I loved how the swings were away from everything which I think is super important for the younger kids! It was no where close to the parking lot either. The bathroom design was very appealing from the outside also. The splash pad was small and cute and enough for the kids to play some and cool off. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the sensor for the water area seemed to be glitching and wouldn’t restart the water at times. Other than that it was great! I would definitely recommend to others and will be back...
