This was our first time here so I am a bit biased on being a newcomer. That said, we've walked/hiked/played around on a portion of all of the local parks in the summit county and surrounding area. I have young kids and teenagers so our experiences in parks tend to revolve around how interesting they are and whether or not you can climb around and see 'neat things'.
In that context, this was probably one of our favorite local trail experiences. We parked near the Deer Lick Cave trail entrance (near a horse crossing) and followed the path for a couple miles before looping back around and following the main adjacent Rd. My kids loved it and it was more than interesting enough for us outdoorsy adults. Caves, paths, stumps, mushrooms, tunnels, ponds, creeks, cliffs, logs, horses, COYOTES (be aware of this if you bring dogs. There are posted signs regarding). Not to mention lots of elevation changes. It will take you some time to cover any ground. Especially with little ones constantly going off trail.
All in all, we loved it. And there is a nearby playground at the community center maybe a mile down the road. We stopped there after the trails and let the wee ones have some playground time. Made for a...
Read moreI had reserved a Backcountry site and while I was ready to hike in to camp, as I typically do when camping, I was not ready to hike along a road for 3+ miles when the website stated .25 miles of trail walking. When I called the park police as instructed, they were nasty to me and there were no office staff to answer my questions. Everyone admonished me for not realizing that parking was impossible for backcountry campers. Just because I can carry my gear, doesn't mean I want to walk miles upon miles to get to the trailhead for a measly trail. Staff have been rude to me regarding this, but I've never run into as many issues as I have regarding parking my car for camping. Miles long road walks are the worst parts of backpacking, and I'm not going to pay $5 for the opportunity. Likely won't return to Ohio, since this is likely the best...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem in the our very own park. Very large area with a forest of trees overhead to ward off a sunburn. A group of ladies volunteered from Emerald Necklace Garden Club to make small Fall flower arrangements for children only. We donated flowers and greens from our yards and obtained donations from local florists/greenhouses. We ran out of flowers just about closing time, which was perfect timing, while putting smiles ☺️ on about 460 children's faces. Of course, that doesn't even count their family and friends. There were many other activities and various types of food, of course. Fall Fest in Brecksville Reservation off Route 82 is an event not to miss next year. Huge shout out to the services provided by the park employees. They were friendly and...
