My partner and I hiked the “Fumee Mountain Pathway” loop from AllTrails here.
We did the whole the loop. We started with the flat part along the lake. It was super easy! Boring even (for us). For someone wanting a nice, easier, flat woods walk, it would be great, just out and back. It’s a narrow 2 track, like a 4 wheeler path, with a little grass in the middle. Some strollers would probably even do fine on this portion of the trail. As we started the incline part of the hike it got much better, it was very nice, and got our hearts pumping a little bit. Some parts got a little narrow (like a single track bike path), but this was for shorter portions. We also wore long pants and lots of natural bug spray. If we do this hike again we plan to do it in reverse, doing the uphill part first, then the flat walk along the lake at the end. The scenery in the woods was beautiful, especially along the ridge. No Mountain View’s, but the woods were so beautiful. The portion along the ridge we enjoyed was 6-7. Looked like a great spot for mountain biking too. We barely saw any other people on our hike.
There are no trail blazes along the actual path, but there are clear markers with a small map reference at every trail crossing. So if you are at a trail crossing and there is no marker then you went off the trail, turn around and go back. As long as you stop at each crossing and check the map you’ll be good! I personally thought everything was well marked and the trails are clear. The signs look newer. There was also plenty of parking.
There were quite a lot of bugs, we were prepared, I mean, it is the woods. We did also pull several ticks off of us when we left.
The hike was mostly shady, but there were a few sunny spots, I had my hat on and off during our hike. We had hoped to stop and eat lunch on the trail but there wasn’t really a good spot. It took us about 2.5 hours to hike the whole loop. We then drove over to Lake Antoine Park and had lunch there, at a picnic table over looking the lake. It was...
Read moreIt's a good place for a nature walk. There are two entrances, the one between Iron Mountain and Norway let's you go around just Little Fumee, and the entrance off Lake Antione goes around Big Fumee, which is a MUCH longer walk. Little Fumee is the perfect size for little feet, and I take my children there as often as I can. A great place to see the changing colors and wildlife, sometimes very buggy and muddy after heavy rain. No playground, pit toilets by parking lots only. For those who play Pokemon Go, there are only a couple pokestops, but the Pokemon are fairly consistent...
Read moreWhen I was a little girl back in the mid to late 60's we used to live on the E- Bar-D horse ranch. We would take our horses on an old trail through the woods close to the ranch and down to Fumee lake. It was very quiet and beautiful. I’m sure there are a lot of Native American artifacts in this area. A lot of very old history besides mining. If you are into hiking and lots of wildlife this is the place. If you are into archeology and ancient places this is the place. If you like lots of raspberries this is also a...
