Wildwood Park might be my favorite place in all of the central Shenandoah valley. It's just a little Park really, but it is right on a branch of the North River and it is always staggeringly beautiful.I think one thing that's so nice about it is that you can quickly get the feeling of being in a remote place even though it's really just a somewhat small Park. There is a small dam there which creates a small waterfall. The city has recently built a small observation deck over the waterfall area that is really nice. The ducks and the geese are so beautiful, (we saw a blue heron there last weekend) and the river runs between the park and a sheer face of Rock which goes up about 50 feet or so, which creates beautiful reflections in the water. The trees also are elegant and beautiful. There is an old suspension footbridge as well. If you're looking for an easy place to get to with a variety of natural beauty and easy access oh, I highly recommend it. It's perfect for a lover's still, a picnic, a first date, some bocce or frisbee with Friends, or a...
Read moreI am a 400 pound dude so, I don't say this often. I would call this place "magical". Ugh, there, I said it. It was an hour drive for us to take our kids there and well worth the drive to me. There is a playground for kids just next to the dam. The dangerous parts are all fenced off so nothing to worry about there. There is a peninsula in the river on the high side of the dam that you can access by a bridge. It was absolutely beautiful there until you turn to see all of the houses in the neighborhood just behind you. Let the kids play a while. Then hit the well maintained bathrooms and then you can cross the bridge and hike the river bank. The water looks very deep up closer to the cliff on the other side so keep the kids close. I loved this place. Will surely go back again and again now that we live...
Read moreTook my 4yr.0ld grandaughter for the 1st time she love it, especially feeding the ducks n the playground till she hit her head at the top of the steps. She cryed, Iee know it hurt bad , my first thought was how dumb that was to put a rail across the top anyways. After giving considerable amount of time contiplating a better design, I,d have to say A+ on design but how about some padded rubber for the kid that don't have hard heads n just want to have fun. Had the rail not been there others could fall backwards. Alot of time went into that design, I commend...
