"Cult" state park
Good luck trying to rent the big Pavillion on a Saturday anymore. The workers get first crack at it. I haven't been since 2019 because they started this bullshit.
We had a pig roast every year for 7 years and the 8th year I was 3rd in line to get a permit on permit day but as we waked into the main office there was an employee there with literally 20 checks from all of his friends and family (I'm not exaggerating) and he somehow got first dibs and took almost every Saturday all summer long. My turn came and there was no Saturdays left, also the two ladies in front of me, one got the last Saturday available and the other had to settle for a Sunday. And we waited an hour to get in so we could get good spots. The next year My brother went to do it to avoid me having a problem same exact situation happened to him! He was 4th in line.
Fast forward to today march 10 2025 and somehow in early March all of the good spots are taken on Saturday once again. I have no doubt in my mind that it's the employees taking all of the good days and Pavillion for their loved ones because in the prior 7 years of the of roast there were plenty of saturdays available, but after 2019 that changed. I can pinpoint it because i was there to witness it! The boss sits cozy at the desk not wanting to hear anything, just brushed my complaint off and made me feel like the bad guy for majingb it known that i caught their gimmck!
Please don't respond with your bullshit! I will do everything in my power to make sure nobody else wakes up early to drive to Bristol and stands in Line for an hour and is the 3rd person, and gets told no more availabilities on permit opening day because the employee that showed up 5 minutes ago gets to cut the line while the actually customers that waited...

Took the family out for a beautiful day at Colt State Park. My wife Ashleigh, my son Benjamin, and I had one mission: let Benjamin ride his bike while we soaked in the scenery. What we didn’t know was that this would turn into an epic quest worthy of its own National Geographic special.
Now, the park is gorgeous. Rolling green fields, sparkling water, people cooking, laughing, playing. The kind of place where you half expect to see a bald eagle deliver you a picnic basket. But here’s the thing… the bathrooms. They are not "just around the corner." They are somewhere out there like a mystical shrine you must earn the right to see. And I, being disabled, was not prepared for what I can only describe as the Colt State Park Bathroom Death March.
We walked. And walked. And walked. Passed picnics, frisbee games, three birthday parties, and what might have been a small wedding. I began to suspect the bathrooms were a myth passed down by ancient park rangers. At one point I considered calling in a rescue chopper. But just as I was about to lose all hope, there it was… civilization. The relief was spiritual.
After surviving that trek, the universe rewarded us with a stand selling traditional Dell’s Lemonade. Let me tell you, that lemonade hit harder than a motivational speech at the end of a sports movie. Tart, sweet, ice-cold, and perfect. I would’ve paid triple, maybe even traded my car for a second cup.
In conclusion, Colt State Park is stunning, lively, and absolutely worth visiting. Just pack a bathroom map and maybe some trail mix for the journey. Four stars because while I love an adventure, I’m not looking to reenact The Lord of the Rings every time...
