We did not expect to find such a gem in our area! We enjoyed our time there so much that we bought a yearly membership the same day! When walking up to the entrance, you see beautifully unique artwork on the buildings. This alone gave a welcoming vibe. Our kids are 4 1/2 and 14 months and we felt safe letting them walk around and see all the animals. The park and animals are very well maintained and there were several different activities for the kids to get involved with the animals, including feeding the birds in the aviary, the giraffes, and other animals throughout the park. My oldest also loved being able to touch some of the animals that the workers brought around. The park is very stroller friendly with mostly paved surfaces and some gravel trails. Broadway Zoological Park is an absolute treasure! My family had the most incredible experience; from feeding parakeets and giraffes to getting up close with tortoises, camels, lemurs, spider monkeys, and more. The animals are clearly well cared for, and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do.
What sets this place apart is their commitment to rescue and conservation. We were amazed to learn that the zoo houses one of the largest natural habitats for alligators in North Carolina! Knowing our visit helped support this mission made the experience even more meaningful.
It’s not just a zoo, it’s a place of learning, compassion, and connection with nature. I can’t recommend it enough for families, animal lovers, or anyone looking to support a great cause while having an unforgettable day.

Read moreMy wife and I were able to go to the zoo on one of their guided tours they offered before they officially open. We had a super fun time looking at a wide range of different animal species, I believe there are over 60! During the tour a very knowledgeable staff member told us all about each animal, the stories of how they came to the zoo, interesting facts about the species, and a little about the personalities of the ones she helped raise! A lot of the animals were rescued or rehomed to the zoo, and the conditions for the animals look great. Many have been rehabilitated.
The animals are sometimes grouped with several species per enclosure because they get along and don’t like to be separated. They definitely put the care of the creatures first. It was wonderful to see how much thought and care went in to how the zoo was set up. We highly recommend this zoo...
