Recently spent a few days in Hochatown, hitting the hiking trails in the Beavers Bend State Park each morning. Stopped by the Nature Centre off Old Park Road for a brief visit and found this an interesting place to learn about local wildlife, fish, birds and a bit of geology. There are a few aquariums with local snakes and turtles as well. Opening hours are 9am to 4pm (Mon to Sat) and 10am to 2pm (Sun) during my Summer visit. There was a ranger on site to answer questions. Not a bad place to visit if you are interested in nature or seeking child-friendly places to include on your visits to the state park.

My dog and I spent the day here hiking. We started on the mountain lookout trail. It was definitely a difficult trail for experienced hikers. Make sure you wear boots with good grip or you’ll be sliding down the trail. Overall it was a good hike, but we couldn’t find the overlook everyone was talking about. The trails are poorly marked and I can across many people that were also lost. It’s a beautiful park overall, but just needs to be marked better.

It's air-conditioned inside the Nature Center. Free admission. Crafts and coloring pages for the littles. Naturalist on staff to share knowledge. Fun touch case for curious, tactile learners. ADA sidewalk is fantastic and fun for wheelchairs and children's strollers. The sidewalk meanders through the trees, over a small creek bridge and to the restaurant nearby. One mile Tree Trail is nearby. Rated easy. Clean restrooms.
