We were highly impressed with the large and well-maintained the campsites at Buckaloons. Two things stop us from giving it a five rating. The restroom had a continuous wet floor as if it had been cleaned but it was like that morning, noon and night. One of the showers in the ladies’ showerhouse was not able to be regulated so that you could make it stay on more than 10 seconds and or control the temperature. The second shower I took I chose a different stall and the water stayed on much longer. There was no way to tell anyone because I never saw rangers or workers the whole time we was there. When we first drove in we used the self-pay station. I know that somebody picked up my information because we got a note from the Senior Pass (Government senior citizens discount ) asking about our stay. It would have been nice if we saw one worker from the state of Ohio. We did see a campsite marked “Camp Host” but didn’t see anybody there. On the plus side, the electricity worked well. There were paths to the river from campsites by the river. Traffic was maintained through a system of one-way streets and speed bumps. We were allowed to use fallen wood for campfires. Wi-Fi was sketchy but good enough to check what we needed. Even though it rained heavily our campsite was pretty well drained so we weren’t walking through puddles of water. There was even a geocache in the campground which is always a plus for us. We saw no poison ivy. The campsite provided a quick way to get to the Allegheny National Forest which is why we came. We will stay here again in a heartbeat. I just wish there were rangers so we could ask...
Read moreThis campground is nicely situated near the Allegheny National Forest. I love to bring my kids to this campground when it is not busy. You can bicycle ride, some canoeing on the river and there is a nice walking trail around the campground. The camp sites are somewhat private.
I have been going here for 20 years and it seems to change with each host. In the past large amounts of alcohol consumption, noise and other unwelcome things would ruin a camping trip. Latest host, covid and other changes have made it nicer. Still have these old issues, recently campers running generators which must be permitted since the host allowed it (should not be permitted as it's rude and Buckaloons offers electric).
My kids love coming back here and it's become a tradition as they get older. Despite attempts at camping elsewhere, this is still the favorite. Convenient access, tons of activities, clean showers and nestled in a fantastic area make this...
Read moreThis is a really nice car-camping campground. The sites are large (we managed to pack four tents and four cars into our RV/electric site, with plenty of room left for the picnic table and fire) and are well separated by trees and small hedges. Some of the sites don't have much privacy from road traffic, though.
The main bathroom building was nice and clean, the smaller satellite buildings weren't great, but were definitely acceptable.
Firewood was kind of pricey, but seasoned and burned well. Ice was available on-site.
Water tasted fine, which was a pleasant surprise.
Only RV/electric sites can be reserved. Tent-only sites are first-come. We reserved an RV site, even though we were tent camping, just because we didn't want to risk getting there and not having somewhere to stay. It was a little bit expensive, but...
