The boardwalk trail was fantastic. It is so peaceful and relaxing hiking this trail early in the morning. We enjoyed watching several varieties of birds and stood 25ft from a young doe eating. She didn't seem bothered by us at all and went about her business for 10-15 minutes before wandering off. I would definitely recommend this trail but would recommend a walking stick if there has been any moisture recently as parts of the walk get extremely slick and having something to steady yourself will be very helpful. I will definitely be returning to this trail. Also, nearby there is a fantastic covered bridge that is a short walk from the trail head. The creek was up and running over the road a bit so it was a bit difficult to get with a short walk through 1/2" deep water but wasn't too...
Read moreStayed here traveling through Missouri 9/21/2021. What a little gem of a park. Quiet, sites are pretty flat, and not crowded. Beautiful walking areas and plenty of room between sites. The main portion for RVs was uncluttered (20 sites or so) and then there is another sections for tents. Our site, 13, was quite long big enough for a 40' Class A. We have a 24' Class C with a toad and did not have to unhitch.
Better cell coverage up the hill from where we were. Yes, you can hear the highway but it's nearly 3/4 mile away so it's not overbearing. A really nice stay. Cash only - no cards on site. Definitely...
Read moreThe department of conservation is really the most functional part of the Missouri government. The state parks are clean, well maintained, and typically have some educational content.
The bathrooms and showers are always in perfect condition. It's nice to sleep in a tent and cook over a fire and hike all day, but it's also good to be able to get really clean afterwards.
Do note that you should NOT bring in your own firewood. The park rangers have it for five dollars per bundle, and if you bring your own you can bring in parasites.
