The welcome center was not open ( Mar 3rd- pre-season) except for a section with clean restrooms and abundant pamphlets and OR maps that were most helpful with places to stay and visit. I could see in there though and would have liked to see the exhibits. The modern building is built high because of its proximity to the river coming into the ocean and gives a nice ocean view but is a long wheelchair incline. There are at least 3 trails- ocean, river, and wetland which I enjoyed walking with my dog and noted others did too. The trail from the ocean needs better marked coming back from an ocean walk. I had a hard time finding it.I would have enjoyed boondocking my small rv here in the pull thru rv parking and enjoying the sunset and sunrise but I was not sure if it was allowed. CA welcome centers did allow one night. My 4 stars only because it wasn’t open....
Read moreThe Brookings Welcome Center was truly the epitome of an Oregon welcome! We walked in and were greeted warmly by two friendly and knowledgeable staff. They prepared us a fresh pot of coffee, answered our questions, and gave suggestions based on our interests and their own personal experiences. The center is well stocked with informational pamphlets on Oregon places to see and experiences to have, local animal life and dining, and much more. There are interesting exhibits on Oregon history and marine life bones (check out the elephant seal bone structure- wow!). There are restrooms inside and a foot shower outside since the welcome center is perched right on the coast with the beach just beyond. Perfect for rinsing off sand before getting back in your car. If you are new to Oregon or just passing through, definitely spend some time at this...
Read moreI visited the Crissey Field welcome center a few weeks ago. I live in Brookings, but I was looking to obtain some up-to-date information about the southern Oregon coast for a friend in Florida. Wow! The welcome center is not to be missed. It’s like an art exhibit/library/nature guide and welcome party rolled into one. The volunteer staffers who work there were warm super informative and yes, welcoming! The free publications are loaded with facts and figures and beautiful graphics. Five enthusiastic stars and then...
