This park is great for picnics, hiking, crayfish and it's shale creek-like river which isn't much like a river at all and usually only inches deep throughout, and crossable in many places. The tall shale cliffs along the river are the most unique feature among the parks in Ohio. Ever since I was a small child I could stand and hear the shale falling bit by bit and echo throughout the cavernous ridge, and it still is to this day. The only caveat I have is this is advertised as a water trail. I strongly suggest rescinding that recent claim of "water trail" because it is NOT possible to kayak the river here! I wonder what compelled the park system to make that claim? The only time the river would be a water trail is during severe flooding. The Vermilion river is only passable by kayak further north...
