A hidden gem of the Northeast Kingdom. The staff is very knowledgeable and everyone that stops gets a tour guide. There are multiple buildings on site include the old grammar school, the boardinghouse, the blacksmith's shop (where they hold regular classes), the observatory, etc. The grounds are stunning and can be rented out for weddings or even smaller events. There is a full kitchen and the terrace of the Hall House is PERFECT for any small event. Also, the observatory has the best view I have come across yet. You can see all the way past Newport and into Canada and can be rented out for weddings! A must if you...

We are from Montreal and we were spending a weekend in Vermont. We were looking for an activity on a rainy day. We were totally charmed! The tour and guide (Mary I think) was incredible. We absolutely love everything and learned so much. The passion is felt in the explanations and people put so much heart into keeping all these historical treasures in good condition. We highly recommend it to anyone passing through the Brownington area. It is something not to be missed. Thanks again...

My wife and I enjoy this venue annually. If you would like to witness and actually feel the experience that 18th century New England was and in some places still is, then Old Stonehouse Museum is your ticket. Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts is one of my favorite places to visit on earth. You definitely witness the 18th century old New England life....but Old Stone House is located in the very heart of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont....here you "feel" the...

Ghost baby? Erased baby? TW: Child loss. Theda Grout Wellman, wife of Reverend Jubilee Wellman, portrait painted by Walter Ingalls. The painting originally included a baby, possibly her daughter Theodocia, which was later painted out, leaving a faint "ghost baby" shadow, with theories suggesting emotional reasons due to the deadh of her daughter. This is on display at the Old Stone House Museum in #vermont #history #publichistory #oldstonehousemuseum #vermonttiktok #vermontlegends #ghostpainting #ghostbaby #arthistory

We have been coming to the Northeast Kingdom for many years, and have never made it over to this place until this past weekend. What an unexpected delight! It's more than just a museum, it's an entire interpretive experience with a great collection of historic buildings and objects specific to the Northeast Kingdom. The tour guides are knowledgeable and fun, and while they do not accept tips, they do encourage donations to the museum fund.
