It's a moderate hike, but overall extremely doable. This trail was overall very smooth. I am currently out of shape and coming back from a knee injury and I was able to complete it with little problem. The trail has no extremely steep sections, and is walk-able, however does contain some rocky areas where you have to be careful where to step. There are 2 trails to choose from, which form a loop.
When you get to the top, the view is AMAZING! I only went to the west end peak, where you have to climb a few rocks to see the view. You can see mountains all throughout the horizon. The ledge is flat enough where you can sit and take in the view, without fear of falling.
It is a perfect camping site, where there looked to be many visitors setting up camp. There are official campsites near the trailhead
As with most times in the woods, bear encounters are possible. I ended up seeing a black bear, but it immediately ran away. I took my camera with me in hopes of photographing wildlife, but I was not able to see a lot of animals during my trip there.
The road to get to the trailhead was quite rough, and a low riding car will NOT make it through. An off-roading vehicle would be best, however you must stay on the road. The road is a rocky, hilly, gravel path with lots of potholes, large...
Read moreFound this trail while looking for other trails to hike. What a great decision to do this one. Fairly easy hike. I think for those that have trouble doing uphill in stretches, doing the loop counter-clockwise would be the way to go.
Trail is well marked, very clean, and seemed to be very kept up (with the exception of the spring side trail near the top. It's like walking through the weeds of Vietnam)
The East View was a very great payoff for the hike up.
When coming down (clockwise, will be going up if you go counter-clockwise) you'll have to cross several small creeks. Nothing that can't be stepped over.
Also, there are no trashcan so make sure to pack...
Read moreA moderately difficult hike with good views from the top. The trail is well marked and maintained and is not overly steep or rocky. The drive up the mountain to the trailhead follows a gravely dirt forest rd that is better than it was due to recent grading work but is still...
