If you have a 4WD car, you can drive up the road/trail about 3 miles to start the hike (you will bottom out on the uneven road otherwise). If you do not have a 4WD car, you'll have to park in the lot at the bottom of the mountain. This means adding 3 miles of only upwards hiking to your already upwards hike (and 3 miles back down). Snow on the mountain can make it confusing as to which way you need to go, so make sure you don't add more miles than you need to by going the wrong direction. Great hike though, strenuous/exhausting/miserable if you're not ready for it. Or if you add more miles to your hike than expected per the above mistakes/options. Don't make those mistakes, don't be like the guy posting this review. 4WD it up baby, and power through this phenomenal and famously tall rock mound to...
Read moreMount Princeton was the first 14er I ever did, and I have to say it was pretty tough. We parked at the bottom trailhead and hiked up to the weather station to camp, then started for the summit early the next morning. We missed the turn off the road onto the trail, so make sure you look at pictures and keep an eye out for the trailhead. We kept hiking up to the top of the road, and then realized there was nowhere else to go!
Once on the main trail, it quickly gets to climbing over large boulders on a steep cliff. To me it felt endless, and like a total leg-beater because the rocks are loose and your balance is being constantly challenged. We ended up hitchhiking back down to the cars, and I've never been more tired in my life! The best kind...
Read moreFun trail, but really really challenging. The trail is 90% rock scramble and it was pretty slick with snow and ice. Start descending by 10:30 am at the latest. The snow began to melt and it made it more slick and turned a few parts into mud that was hard to climb on or around. I have rock climbing experience and I’m glad I did. It was tough. If I do it again I’d do it midsummer when there’s less/no snow. I brought my Miolle recovery gear incase of emergency. It's better to be...
