Yankee Horse Ridge Trailhead to Wigwam Falls — Attraction in Buena Vista

On one of our extended weekend trips to Virginia, my wife and I along with our dog Bentley enjoyed a day traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway stopping to take in the magnificent scenery along the parkway.

One of our favorites stops was the Yankee Horse Ridge Overlook. Located at milepost 34.4 along the parkway.

In the photos is a reconstructed narrow-gauge railroad track once known as the Irish Creek Railway. If you’re traveling along the Blue Ridge Parkway & want to see a beautiful waterfall without a strenuous hike (or really any hike at all!) then Wigwam Falls is a great stop! It’s located between mm 34 and 35 on the Parkway. There’s a short trail (really short- Less than 5min walk even for my toddler) to a beautiful waterfall with plenty of space to spread out for a picnic. We almost missed the falls completely. We kept going on what seemed to be the trail continuing on the old railroad tracks but soon realized the trail started to become overgrown and not passable. We turned around and decided to head back when we realized there was a different way to go and we managed to find the waterfall area.
