Food doesn't get more topnotch than this!
You've never had turkey until you've had one from Old Road Farm. I mean it. My husband and I ordered up one for Thanksgiving 2023 and followed Karis's instructions for roasting, as these organic, free-range turkeys do not take as long to roast as a store-bought turkey. You know how turkey often makes you feel all sluggish and tired after you've eaten it, even if you've eaten a modest amount? This turkey doesn't. It's flavor is so fresh and clean, and you can eat a lot without having that weighed-down feeling. Our guest, an older man, ate both legs. In one sitting! The cats begged for it--everyone loved it.
When we factored in how many meals we got out of the turkey, it really wasn't terribly expensive--and much, much cheaper than eating out, for example. I always make a turkey pie with some of the leftover meat and gravy, and after Christmas (my husband insisted on having another turkey for Christmas!), I made two and still have one in the freezer. Buy one of Karis's big turkeys and have your friends over for a feast and some board games! You'll be glad you did.
We are all very accustomed to paying low prices for meat, eggs, vegetables. But what we're really doing is paying CAFOs (concentrated animal feeding organizations) to make animals miserable for their short lives so we can have plenty of meat that is not healthful for us to eat. I'd rather eat less meat and know that every bite is doing something good for my body! And it's absolutely vital to preserve the small farm, to preserve people's ability to get back to the land and carve out a life doing what they love for the sake of everyone's health. That's...
Read moreOur Airbnb stay at The Old Road Farm was above and beyond expectations. Karis was the most attentive and thoughtful host. Upon arrival, she helped with my bags and made me feel right at home on her family owned farm. My friend arrived the next morning, and we had the best time thanks to our host. The amenities were much more than what was listed on Airbnb. They have a camping stove, plates, cups, silverware, pans, kettle, coffee, tea, olive oil, and even some spices provided! They even left us some farm fresh eggs and kept us well stocked with their spring water! They've really thought of everything here with all the little touches that go a long way. We enjoyed touring the farm, watching the milking process, and being able to pet the animals. The view was incredible, and the stars at night were breathtaking! We loved sitting around the firepit under the night's sky, and we were well stocked with firewood from the neighbor boys (be sure to bring cash!). Thank you so much for the hospitality and love shown. We will...
Read moreWe are very fortunate to have the Old Road Farm nearby. It makes for a scenic trip on a Saturday morning thru the countryside. We know it's a working farm because every time we go Karis is wearing bib coveralls and rubber boots. Some times they are out of stock on what we want which is what to expect for a small operation focusing on quality, but the wait is worth it. We have liked everything we have gotten and it has real good taste and flavor. It also gives us peace of mind that no processed food chemicals are being used. For those not wanting to make the scenic drive we know they have different sites where they make deliveries to. You can't beat The Old Farm if you are looking for good stuff that...
