This is my first time here on 7/18/20. I grew up around here as a kid/teenager and I never knew about this place even now as an adult and living 10 minutes away, I was just told about it. Sad. Todd Nature Reserve is quite the little gem. It's so quiet, serene, and beautiful. Nature as it's intended to be. You do hear birds but we did not see not a one(Audubon Society birding guide would be helpful lol!). Also, there hasn't been rain in quite awhile so the creeks are barely a trickle of water, there are some pools here and there. After this draught is over, I'm sure the waterfall(along the Ravine Trail) would be amazing. There are several trails to choose from. Since it was my first time and my best friend hasn't been in years, we walked to the ruins of the cabin, took the Indian Pipe Trail then the Red Loop Trail then the Ravine Trail which led us back up towards the parking lot. Next time I visit, bringing my husband, I would like to walk the entire Red Loop Trail, lord help me. Lol! There are no paper maps(at the cabin) available so you have to take a picture of the one on the board so you know what trails are what and to get back to your car. Color paint marks on trees as well.
I recommend anyone visiting the area or if you're like me lived here but never gone to Todd Nature Reserve, please do....
Read moreI had accidentally stumbled across this place from using an app called seek. I was looking for a mushroom called Hemlock Varnish Shelf aka Reishi and it showed it was spotted before in this location. Although sad to report I did not find what I was looking for in a way I did find what I was looking for. I was looking for this place in general. I am an avid mushroom enthusiast I guess I love being in wooded areas looking for specific things or anything I come across really. Even if it is not a take home item I still love just observing new things in their natural habitat and taking in the wildlife. I found a bunch of new things I have never observed before here even found a different kind of chicken of the woods here. Nothing I would take home but it was still a nice find. We got to explore pretty much the whole place except parts of the polypod trail and mostly the whole ravine trail but we covered pretty much the rest of the area. Really a beautiful place to come and enjoy a day in the woods. I will definitely be back here in the near future. Lived around here all my life and never even knew this place existed. A very nice find I give it a 5 stars cause I enjoyed it...
Read moreThis place has been a wonderful part of my life. So many memories were made here growing up. It's large, expansive trek of land makes it a wonderful place to escape from reality. The weather can also make this place really fun to be if you are the type of person that that loves a good challenge. After a hard rain, the river swells which makes it extremely fun to go down the Ravine trail. I'd recommend this place to everyone and any one. In addition to that, it's extremely historic. The original house that was built by the original owner still stands and the park is named after him. My friend and I recently went up there before winter began to repair and enforce the existing bridges. There's always a well maintained maintenance of the park so you don't have to worry about anything giving way or getting lost. There are a lot of trail markers everywhere you go within the park to keep you going without getting lost. There's a scenic pond and the trails vary in difficulty from easy to hard. There are also maps available when you get there so you can figure out which trails are the right fit for your party. Check it out, it's a wonderful...
