It's over. A true living monument (on life support) to the destruction of our Polish roots in this city, and the rape of what was once a thriving cultural hub for Polish diaspora.
Our Lady of Czestochowa please pray on our behalf for the hardworking souls that still toll away to somehow keep their businesses operating in the face of such bleak circumstances, and may they be blessed for their unwavering willingness to keep their culture & traditions alive, against all odds. May the Lord keep them safe in an area that has become over run with violence, greed, vice, and general degeneracy. May you pray for the lost souls who live in chaos and desperation throughout the area now.
This state, this county, this city - drains us relentlessly with outrageous taxes year after year, and look at what has become of what was once our parents & grandparents community and daily routine not even a few decades ago. Look at how our beautiful historical cathedrals are being sold off by a corrupted Diocese. Look at how this country as a whole invests in everyone else and every other nation except it's own citizens. Monuments, homes, communities built by our forefathers bare hands have been turned to squalor by the forces at will. Now our Grandmas are too scared to even travel to the area for an hour or two to relive nostalgia, of which would turn into grieving of how their childhood home, their roots have been utterly mutilated.
When will people start to truly voice themselves uncensored? Let alone do something proactive about it?
The city of Buffalo itself is almost the perfect monument to slow death of what was once the American dream of...
Read moreThe first time I've ever visited the Market. Parking on the street and staying aware on the way in, it was a beautiful sunny day. Once inside, the smell of kraut and sweets instantly consumed my senses, body, hair, and the clothes I was wearing. The sight of the many vendors lining the outer walls and others forming islands within the center of the building was captivating as they each possessed a unique look and display. To my amazement, there were more vendors on the second floor! We saw clothing, jewelry, nick nacks, hats, baked goods, fresh meats, fresh fish, tupperware, candy, and BUTTER LAMBS! I must say, of all the hype over Polish vendors, it was Gino's Italian Bakery display that captured my eye as the most appealing. The apparent father and daughter team working the counter were so absolutely friendly. We ended up purchasing a fantastic iced pastry heart, a sort of iced puff pastry braided with delicious raspberry filling, a yummy iced cutout cookie that gave a slight taste of cherry in the dough, and our very favorite item was a giant cinnamon roll (microwaved with butter on the top for breakfast the next day) We also visited the Chrusciki Bakery, bought a couple peanut butter cookies, a chocolate chunk cookie, and our hot cross bun (yet to be tasted). Our last stop was to purchase a butter lamb from Malczewski's. We bought the big 19.99 size and it survived the trip home, half way to Rochester. An...
Read moreThe Broadway Market is a truly unique experience in Buffalo, a large indoor vendor market. We went early yesterday morning as part of a yearly pilgrimage we make around Easter time. There are dozens of vendors selling all sorts of local made goods ranging from chocolates, to baked goods, to clothing, dips, spices, fresh vegetables and meats, and much more. They also usually have live entertainment like bands, guitarists, and traditional polish dancing. I'm not sure if that's year round or just for Easter, since it's typically the only time we go.
On our yearly trip we usually go for the delicious local chocolates (peanut butter eggs mostly) and baked goods (I walked away with a pair of delicious cannoli) but occasionally splurge on other things. Last year I bought a shirt, this year we got a butter lamb. We also usually get a couple of pierogis since there are a dozen stands that serve them cooked all around the market.
To me this is a wonderful yearly tradition my wife and I truly enjoy, and I can't think of a better way to get out and support...
