The Rexis side of Vintondale is a great place to start to walk, hike, or bike East or West on the GTT. You can also go North along the North Branch of Blacklick Creek to Belsano, PA from the Rexis/Vintondale trailhead. Adequate parking and beautiful scenery abound along Blacklick Creek. The Vintondale to Wehrum (pronounced 'where-um') section of the Ghost Town Trail traveling West does not disappoint. Situated along Blacklick Creek in Indiana and Cambria counties this 3 mile section continues to offer outstanding scenic beauty. Rich with history of the coal mining and railroad industries of times past, you'll find two iron furnaces along the 20 mile stretch from the (town of) Blacklick terminus to Vintondale. This is an easy section of trail, ideal for walking, hiking and biking of all age levels.

Parking at Vintondale I was able to ride a loop north by following the Rexis Branch towards Vic Miller Trailhead, then over US route 422 and down to Nanty Glo where I was able to ride up to Blacklick Elementary School turning onto Railroad St where the trail has yet to be finished down into Nanty Glo. It was simple and obvious to find the way back to the GTT . It will be fantastic when the trail is finished all the way into Nanty Glo. From Nanty Glo I just rode back to Vintondale.

This trail is beautiful. So much history & the village of Vintondale is quaint with its church buildings and older buildings. There is a wonderful book written about Vintondale. I love walking on this trail. In the village of Vintondale, you will see a beautiful miner memorial, remnants of the old railroad, a donated rail car, and an original coke furnace from the 1800s. Definitely worth visiting this area.

Very clean and well maintained, trail splits into Rexis Branch, you can follow black lick creek north branch and take Stritty's way, a 14 KM side trek with winding trail roads, and many places along the river for great views, watch out for bikers decsending the trail and as always, Clean up after yourselves and especially YOUR DOGS. Trail rules also state dogs are too be leashed regardless of the "contained or controlled law" and if your dog does not listen to verbal commands and you have to physically retrieve it, then state law says your dog is not 'controlled' and must be...
