The Klepzig Mill and Farm Complex is an excellent example of a small, remote Ozark "tub" (turbine) mill and farm unit of the 1920's. The complex is made up of 121 arces rough terrain with under half of that being able to be row cropped each year and still has some wild horses still lingering around in the hills. All of the buildings, yards, roads, dam and the stream remain in their original condition except for the wear of time and recent neglect. The mill itself is a prime specimen of what was once a rather common type which have all but disappeared in the eastern Ozarks. No similar building is on the National Register of Historic Places for Missouri nor are there any on the state-wide inventory. The road is not for low clearance vehicles... this is maintained but this is ruggedness terrain and flash flooding is major and will cause problems. Please respect and don't litter. Klepzig mill sign go left on Co 522 and it's a NO CELL...

The mill is 1.2 miles down the road which has some rough and narrow sections and a couple of hills which are best in a high clearance vehicle or be very careful in a lower clearance sedan. The drive is well worth it. We left Rocky Falls which was packed on a warm summer's day, and drove to Klepzig Mill which we had to ourselves for the hour we visited. The shut-ins are beautiful and had a lot of water flowing through them for mid summer. The remnants of the mill, dam, and concrete sluice are interesting, but the natural beauty steals the show. You can step across to the other side without too much difficulty and view from different angles. Highly...
Read moreToday was wet from last night's rain. It made the road more of an adventure. If you use GPS to provide your route do not give up when it says you are at the mill. Keep going a little further on that road and you will see a sign for pavement ends. Go another 2 or 3 hundred yards and you will see a rock road on left with a small sign that says Klepzig Mill. Follow that gravel and clay road about 1 1/4 mile . Then you will be rewarded with a great look at a historic mill sitting in a beautiful setting. The recent rain made the creek higher and beautiful flowing through and over the shut inns that were used to power the mill, but also did not do the road any good. It was well worth the trip....
