We did the VIP experience for my boyfriend's birthday and while it was fun to be up-close with the animals we were left a little disappointed with the experience.
Pros: There was such a lovely array of animals that we were able to spend time with. We got to pet and feed that animals and were educated on how to approach them. The farm is well taken care of and the animals seem to be well taken care of. We started on time and were greeted at the door.
Cons: The tour guide seemed rushed and inattentive throughout the entire tour. He took us around the farm and stopped in each location and give us a few comments of the enclosure but seemed preoccupied by his phone. He told us he had a pending blueberry tree sale he wanted to make before the close of the farm, which was fine. But he texted and took phone calls throughout our tour and towards the end told us that he needed to get back to make a sale. Our guide was nice and knowledgeable that it would have been very pleasant if we felt he took the time to put us as his focus instead of his prospective tree buyer. The tour seemed unstructured and the guest decides the schedule: During the first part of the tour, we were able to look at chickens (or silkies, I cannot remember) and pet rabbits. This was great but we were not given notice that we were supposed to dictate the time. We waiting for his instruction for about 15 minutes looking at chickens when we finally realized that we was not going to come get us. Then we sat with bunnies - which was cool! However, we paid $400 to see capybaras, which we told him upfront, and we spent so much time looking at other animals and waiting for him to tell us when to go that we were rushed to spend only around 10 minutes with the remaining two animals that we had to choose how we wanted to allocate our time. And the remaining two animals were the ones we paid our hard earned money to see. For future goers, please just make sure you are keeping time.
Overall this was still a good experience and it was special for my boyfriend but we left the farm feeling disappointed that we spent $400 and were not given our tour guides attention. I understand you wanted to sell some trees before the end of the day but we paid for the VIP experience and we felt we missed the 'Very Important' part. Giving 3 stars because he was nice and proceeds go to the animals. It is obvious Todd loves his animals and takes pride in his farm so maybe our experience was...
Read moreThe Dunham Family farm was incredible! It did NOT disappoint! The VIP experience - yes, a little pricy - was worth every penny!!!!! Better than going to Africa on a safari! Obviously better than any zoo!! Highly recommend!!!!!
I came across this unique place from googling “fun activities with kids around the Dallas/Fort Worth area.” Of course my kids love science museums and adventure parks but they love animals even more! And we knew it was going to be better than a zoo!
I followed all of the directions on their website and messaged the owner! It was a last minute ask over a holiday weekend! I didn’t know if there were any open spots but luckily there was!
The 90 min VIP experience for my 10 and 7 year old (plus my husband and I and an animal-loving Aunt and Uncle) was perfection - the open jeep ride was a fun adventure in and of itself! Feeding goats, emus (they are so soft!), deer, Wallaby’s (the cuddliest!), one cavy, many capybaras (watch their teeth!)……peacocks and pheasants and tortoises!!! Sooooo many animal encounters!!!!! And best of all were the miniature bunnies at the end - the most docile bunnies in the world!!!
Best of all was Mr. Dunham! A true gem of a human. He was a biology teacher for over 30 years and has been raising and saving animals for over 50 years! He answered my kids 10,000 questions and his presence, knowledge, warmth, and passion made the whole experience even better than we could have ever imagined!!!!
And their little general store did not disappoint! My boys left with two “slappy cappy” capybara slap bracelets! They love them!!!!
If you love animals, you MUST go! Amazing animals, amazing farm, an amazing owner! You just gotta go!!!!!
Thank you for the most special experience we will never forget! Very thankful! And grateful!!!! Thanks Dunham...
Read moreThe Dunham Farm was an absolute unforgettable experience! There are several animals to see and have an exclusive encounters with. By appointment only. With a reservation, you can have an exclusive encounter with one or all the animals. There is a variety of packages on the website to choose from.
The animals are super calm, gentle, and approachable. During our visit, we had the opportunity to meet the very popular capybaras.
We attend the first tour at 8:30AM which provided a great temperature before the summer heat settled in. The owner was very welcoming and provided an excellent tour around the farm before routing us to our exhibit. We fed, played, and took several pictures with the capybaras. Such a remarkable experience!
The gift shop offer a variety of souvenirs such as T-shirts, pins, stickers, plushies, croc charms, blankets, and bags. By purchasing those items, you are helping to take care of all the animals.
The owner was very responsive and gave a lot of information ahead of time to come ready for your visit.
We did the 30min tour, but will do the 90min tour next time, it will worth the experience!
🚫♿️ : Not too wheelchair friendly since there is a lot of big rocks around the farm, will be hard to maneuver around. VIP packages would be best to purchase since it will include a tour with the 4wheeler.
Thank you for being very accommodating during our first visit to the Dunham First! We will...
