This review is for a visit the girlfriend and myself made a month back doing the 2018 Christmas Wine Affair. We chose Perissos as our first winery at random to pick up our passport. We were new to wine tasting and this was our first wine tour. From our arrival Perissos staff was wonderful , kind, helpful and attentive. We started our day off with the wine tasting, our attendant was very knowledgeable and explained the whole experience with each wine tasting we were presented with. She was very helpful in answering every question we had, even running off to the sommelier and wine makers to get answers to questions she wasn't quite sure of. At the end of our wine tasting we ended up purchasing a few bottles of wine that we enjoyed the most. As we where paying for the purchase, we were invited to take a tour of the place and even got to sample some wine that we purchased that was still in the making to get a before and after of the wine making process. In the end, we were completely blown away with the whole experience and Perissos really set the bar high. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Since Perissos was our first winery visit, every other winery we visited was terrible in comparison. We later found out first hand the other wineries DO NOT like the passport tours and will treat you pretty bad so needless to say we didn't buy hardly any wine from any other winery. I give that detail because Perissos didn't seem to mind at all that we were doing the passport and treated us so nicely. We couldn't have asked for a better experience than what we received from Perissos. We will be a continued customer....
Read moreFirst, the roads to and around this winery are great, especially during bluebonnet season in the spring. On top of that, the setting is truly delightful. Everything about Perissos is reminiscent of Tuscany. Sometimes, we make up reasons to be in that area for an excuse to stop by and say "hi" to the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff and owners. Several of the staff have been there for as long a we've been visiting, which is about twelve years. It is truly a family business, and it's always a joy to visit. They make everyone feel like a part of their family.
With Covid restrictions, my husband and I wanted to have a special Christmas dinner for the two of us. I prepared rack of lamb as our main course. I chose to serve one of their 2015 reds. It was a perfect choice for the meal. From beginning to end, we were delighted with how well the wine accompanied everything. It was a lovely wine when we first tasted it in 2016. This bottle had gotten even lovelier with age and from the aroma to swirl in the glass to the first taste and through to finish it was delightful and very smooth.
We’ve traveled to Italy, France, and other European countries, sampling great wines as we went. We’ve visited all along the wine country in California. This vintage is the very best red wine I have ever enjoyed.
It is always a delight to visit, taste their new wines and try the...
Read morePerissos Vineyard and Winery is a look to the future. Wine takes time. Vines take longer. There’s a pretty common view among people who appreciate high quality wine, and that is that Texas wines can’t compete with the likes of Napa or Bordeaux. But, if you ask any experienced winemaker, they will tell you the truth. Texas will be known for great wine someday. It just needs time. Time for the vines to mature. Perissos though stands out even now. I’ve been a member for about a decade now, and the wine just gets better every year. If you want to taste the future of Texas wine, go and taste Perissos now. Some of the standouts: Viognier, Sangiovese, Tempranillo, Malbec (the 2018 is amazing), Mourvèdre Rosé, and Aglianico.
It doesn’t hurt that the vineyard itself is beautiful. Nothing beats a beautiful afternoon in the Texas hill country on their estate.
Don’t miss it. They are the best I’ve...
