There are a few things that I wish the campground would change, but overall I liked it and would visit again.
The Bad: the biggest thing I wish they would change is the setup of the dump/water fill station. There is only 1 (with spots for 2 RVs at a time) for both the campgrounds to use. Over 300 campsites and no full hookups, so that seems a bit ridiculous. If you are in the south campground, you have to go up to the north campground to get water, then come back to the south campground. If you are just getting water you DON'T need to follow the crazy route through the north campground, just go straight there and get water. To dump, they have created a route that goes through the north campground to line up. I understand why they did it (to form one line, and allow people who don't need to dump to exit the other side) but it just seems like the worst way to handle it. I went by bike to check out the line before we were leaving and it was 21 campers long, and that blocks everybody with sites along the route from leaving! At the very least, I think they need to change a few of the jug filler stations in the south campground to have spigots you can screw a hose on, so people can fill their water tanks in the south campground. (This would also help prevent e. coli from the idiot we saw using the potable water to rinse out his sewer hose!) Another issue is there is only one host, only in the north campground. I think they need to have one in the south campground, and honestly with the size of the north campground they could easily have a second one on the other side. Also, they have a nice new shower/bathroom facility in the south campground, but they close the whole thing for cleaning (and they seemed to have just hosed it down and not actually cleaned it!) and hang up a sign saying to use the bathrooms in the north campground! Are you kidding?? I mean, maybe if you had a kid about to have an accident they would let you use it, but still, it's a bit ridiculous to tell people to go to the bathroom half a mile away (not everyone has a separate vehicle, and if you gotta go, you gotta go!) I have T-Mobile, and I only had service at the beach. Otherwise my phone either had no service, or thought I was in Canada.
The Good: the sites are spacious, especially in the south campground. They have 50 Amp sites (whole south campground, plus some in the north). The camp store is quite nice, and they have ice cream. Both campgrounds have foot paths to the beach, plus paths connecting the two campgrounds through the woods. The beach is rocky, but the rocks are mostly smooth and round, so you could definitely swim here (bring water shoes). Great for rock hunting/rock painting. They had rock painting with the camp hosts, plus several other free activities the weekend we were there.
As I said, I would definitely come back here, I think it might be nice to try one of the sites in the north campground that are closest to the lake. I would definitely be very hesitant to stay in a site along the "dump route" (even in a tent it has to be awful with all the campers blocking you in). Maybe midweek doesn't have too many people...

Read moreA beautiful campground!! Just yards from the beach! Lots of grass, well maintained, great camp host who had such a cool setup of his own!! Close to town. Only 2 channels and non existent internet. Had to drive into town to get phone service. Only 4 stars because one huge problem is no water or sewer hookups. You can only dump your black and gray tanks up on the main road of the park at the dumping station. So you either have to hook up and pull your trailer out to it or use a pull behind honey pot. This is a terrible inconvenience. On the water situation they have several faucets throughout the park to fill your jugs. It would be more convenient if they had more of these faucets that were closer to each unit so you could hook up your hose to fill your fresh water tank. Carrying water jugs full of water back and forth are very heavy for the older folks especially. This is the only state we have camped in without full hookups. And we have camped in many as we are full time. Why not make these upgrades to bring your beautiful campground into present day. Another suggestion for the no hookup for sewer is to have a truck come around every few days and empty your tank for you. We have seen that listed for some campgrounds in other states. As many tourists as Michigan gets, especially for the Great Lakes, you would think you would try and improve...
