Trippet Ranch is a mid-ride stop for me when I mountain bike in the SM mountains. It is a very welcome oasis especially during the hot summer months. I start at the Marvin Braude entrance at the top of Reseda Bl, ride out past Trippet to Parker Mesa and drop down the hill to Trippet on my way back to rinse off the dust and sweat and re-fill my water bottles for the slog back up the hill past Eagle Rock. Full bathrooms, 3 water fountains and cool shade make it a mandatory stop. There is paid parking here for those who use this as their launching point, enter via Entrada off of Topanga Bl just up from the intersection with Old Topanga (Inn of the 7th Ray). Plenty of picnic tables in cool shaded areas, though of course, no open flame is allowed so no BBQ. Speaking of the aforementioned Parker Mesa, it is hands down, one of the most beautiful vistas in the entire area with sweeping panoramic views of the ocean. It's a bluff on a small peak above the Palisades with a couple of benches facing the ocean to chill and ponder life. On a clear day you can see LA from the downtown sky scrapers, Century city and the westside beach communities south to PV, then to the north west up to the northern end of Malibu, from the bluff above the ocean. It's a 3 mile, moderately difficult hike/ run/ mountain bike ride up from Trippet, 3 miles back. What a great day- bring a picnic in a cooler in the car, hike out to Parker Mesa and back, then wash up and enjoy your picnic as you cool down at Trippet. Just please, pack your trash out, keep it clean and no...

This is a great starting point to some of the Topanga canyon trails. Eagle rock is just a couple miles (uphill) from the parking lot. Musch trail is very scenic and pretty. Except for a very small portion of Mush trial, most of the trails here are along rigdlines so it means there is basically no tree cover, in the middle of the day you will be directly exposed to a lot of sun, so wear lots of sunblock and bring a hat. If you get here early there is usually very little people on the trails. There is a parking fee for parking at the trail site, its like $8 maybe. Many people try to find parking in the neighborhood around the trail site and just walk in so they don't' have to pay. I think its worth the small parking fee, the restrooms are really well kept and it helps support the parks programs. They used to only take cash but now they have a parking machine that takes card so its...

We did the Santa Ynez Waterfall trail and there was so much poison oak. There is no way to go around it so wear long pants, not shorts. Make sure to take a technu shower afterwards. It even says not maintained so it gives us some warning. It was a moderate hike with some steep areas, very sunny, not a lot of shade, bring!lots of water and snacks. Wear good shoes. If you are allergic to bees, I do not recommend coming here as there were many swarms of them everywhere. Waterfall was only trickling when we went in July 2019. It took about 3 hours round trip with...

Great spot to relax after the long hike up Santa Ynez Canyon! I’ve made this my picnic stop with available benches and tables. There’s no vendors or snack machines, so backpacked food will suffice. Trippet Ranch is part of Topanga State Park. For those who prefer to drive in, the Topanga State Park lot is within ten minutes downhill, in addition to street parking along Entrada Road, at the park entrance. I’m including photo’s with some info. Additional info may be available thru the park’s website, as well as the availability of park docent guided tours.
