Went to stay for the weekend and the site I reserved was already occupied when we got to it. It was site 56. It's located on one of the turn arounds. Theres 5 sites on the turn around, but what it doesn't say is that their all pretty much one site because their so close together. There was only 1 fire pit in that area. So I went back to the office and requested another site that wasnt occupied. They had no problem with me picking out a better spot. Every camp site has 1 picnic table and 1 fire pit. With the site I mentioned earlier as the exception. There is 2 or 3 shower buildings in the park. Which is reasonable for the parks size. I give the showers a 3 star rating. Theres more than enough showers, however the water in them bearly gets warm at all. And the sinks are hard to use. U have to hold one knob while u wash one hand at a time because as soon as u let go the water will switch off because the knobs r on a spring. Its easier to wash ur hands at a bathroom at a Walmart with their crappy sensors than u do here. There is a laundromat in the shower building, at least the one I was near and used. One thing that disappointed me about the park was the bathrooms. They r literally just outhouses. No running water, the smell is awful and there isn't a door on the entrance so its covered with bugs on the inside. If u need to pick up some camping supplies that u may have forgotten at home the main office has a few things u might need. And its alot cheaper than I expected it to be. For a bag of ice, its $1.50 and a bundle of firewood (5 or 6 peices) is only $3.50. But if u cant find anything there, theres a few stores just down the road about 10 minutes. Important side note, if u r staying at the campground u have to drive to the beach if u want to swim in the lake. It's less than 5 minutes but it's worth noting. The beach is rather nice. It has a few grills set up around the area and some picnic tables. Along with plenty of shade. U can swim, fish, and kayak, but theres designated areas for...
Read moreWolf Run St Pk has very shallow open unlevel sites, no privacy. Sites were clean. Cherry Trail was nice. Other trails were overgrown and ended abruptly, encountered ticks in the high grasses on the unmaintained lake trail. The outhouses are the worst I've seen in 50+ years of camping. No lids on toilets, no doors to outhouse & there seems to be absolutely no treatment of excrement in pits, therefore flies & bugs are unbearable. The smell extends far into the campground. Horrendous! There is a port-a-potty at the picnic ground that is a highly recommended alternative and well worth the drive. The Ohio State Parks pamphlet & Wolf Creek pamphlet indicate a Nature Center. I asked the woman in the park entrance booth & she said it was a brown building just up the road. When I told her I looked but couldn't locate it, she then offered up that it is no longer open. I found the broken down building that was a bit larger than an outhouse, a disappointment as I go to parks with nature centers for my grand kids. When reserving a site on Reserve America there were many sites with no pictures or specs on shade & site length. That should have been a red flag. I gave a 2-star rating only because the lake is beautiful & I imagine excellent for boaters. I would not return to...
Read moreThis state park is not a good place to hike if that is your intention to go there. I stopped by for a couple hours late afternoon recently as I was traveling down to Marietta, Ohio and was kinda excited about getting in a hike before it was dark outside and the park wasn't far off the interstate and toward my destination. I had checked the website and it said there were 3 trails. I only came across one and it was only a half mile. Perhaps it was more navigation on my part or the other 2 trails are not mapped out. To it's credit, the lake was a pretty view and it looks like there's a hidden trail that goes around the lake but I would recommend really good shoes and things to help keep your balance as the brief trail I saw was very thin (a section behind the picnic area that goes toward the lake). Camping wise I can't comment on an experience but I felt like I would not enjoy camping here because it seems like the areas are a bit congested and if privacy is a reason to camp or something you want, to me it did not look like you would...
