This place has been in my list for a very long time, finally decided to check it out. Went camping on memorial weekend, it was cold and super windy but I still had the most amazing time. We stayed on south shore moccasin site. The site had some pros and cons. Pros: super close to bathroom Super close to marina, launch, rental and shop. The the best spot to swim was just making your way down the hill. View of lake and amazing sunset. Tap was on our site which made it so convenient.
Cons: we reached on Friday night the site was filled with roaches. When we lit the camp fire, things got better. Bathroom is nasty The site is not marked correctly so it's really hard to know which part we are suppose to be at. Like between you and your neighbors, it's hard to decide. But I guess you will just adjust to your area. We were in the middle of two families with loud music. I did not mind coz we don't have signal or radio so enjoyed the music. But I know for some people it can be an issue.
We got lucky that our neighbors had good lights so our kitchen was well lit. Day three we did boating, the water was super rough because of all this hey skis. If you just want to rent boat and take and park some where and enjoy the quiet time, go towards cove side. It was very pleasant and great sandy spots to park. So when iam facing the boat rental place from land I'll make my way to the right. There's a 20mph sign posted so people don't race there. Which makes the water calm. I found the shop very expensive, I was trying to get batteries, so 4 pack battery is $10, I drove 9min away and got it for a bit cheaper. But the staffs at the shop we're amazing and full of information. A big shout out to Angela for being the most amazing person there.
It was an amazing weekend and an amazing experience. Do go enjoy yourselves. The drive is pretty as well. Happy...
Read moreI've been camping my entire life. The last 12 to 15 years we've camped at Lake Camanche every August. Last year we went on our annual August camping trip and there was a ROACH infestation. I don't understand how that's possible but it was disgusting. I could hardly eat and was a freak once it became dark because they were EVERYWHERE!! I wanted to pack up and go running home but because we had family who come from all over we stuck it out. I told my husband this year we needed to call and find out what is the status with there bug issue and were told it was cleared up. We were told yes and went ahead and made reservations. We got there and guess what, NO it wasn't!!!! I do have say it got alot better BUT there were still a noticeable amount of roaches. I'm sorry I don't want to camp, sleep, cook or eat ANYWHERE were there is a freaking ROACH problem. I'm so infuriated with not only being lied to about the issues but at the fact that there is no warning or heads up to the ppl that there is an issue. They don't have to worry about having to LIE to me again me and my family will not be back. We go every August and have our family reunion and there is anywhere from 40 to 60 of us. Better believe we'll take our business elsewhere and ensure when it gets dark we won't be attacked by a freaking bug...
Read moreIf you're looking for a great camping experience at Lake Camanche, both the North and South Shores offer something unique. For those who enjoy tent camping and are self-sufficient with a generator, I highly recommend the North Shore. The beauty of this area is unmatched, with well-maintained bathrooms, warm and clean water, and plenty of dog-friendly walking trails. The coves are perfect for paddle boarding, and renting a boat to explore the north end of the lake is a must. You’ll discover interesting rock formations, secluded fishing spots, and peaceful areas far from the noise of jet skis. It feels like a true adventure with more trees and native landscapes.
On the other hand, if you prefer the glam life with all the camper hookups, then the South Shore is your spot. But even if you stay there, the North Shore is still worth a visit for its natural beauty.
Boat rentals are easy, though I do wish there was more variety available. The food is good, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Don’t forget to get your boat card! The water levels are still high, leaving plenty of room for boats to enjoy the lake. Overall, Lake Camanche offers a fantastic experience, whether you're looking for...
