The Eastern California museum: My family and I arrived here on our way to see Manzanar. After listening to the public broadcast system it suggested we go to the Eastern California museum to complete our Manzanar experience. We decided to give it a shot, and came here since it was very close to Manzanar. The museum is relatively small but it is absolutely packed to the rafters with memorabilia of days gone by. It has vintage items all the way back to Los Angeles aqueduct construction to the Indian artifacts of the whole region to Manzanar and the people who lived there. It is well worth seeing, and I would highly recommend stopping here. It is handicapped accessible even though not marked, there are bathroom facilities and plenty of free parking. Read moreI really enjoyed this museum. They had alot of old western stuff, and I really enjoyed the train. It was a narrow gauge train, and they did a great job restoring it.
The other thing that I greatly enjoyed about this place was the had a very thorough and extensive native american section. Normally in museums, the Indian section is a sneeze worths of stuff in a corner. Not here. They had a huge room full of all kinds of relics, and various photgraphs, and bits of history on the Natives of the area, and other places.

The Inyo county museum contains historical artifacts of the 1st people's and settlers/ranchers. We stayed a little over an hour. Kids learned a lot of history of the area. I am glad we did a pit stop.
Shawn the curator was very knowledgeable and it was great to talk to her. She is very approachable and very generous with her knowledge. Kids enjoy talking to her.
