Great for camping. Stream nearby.Updated. So apparently camping is prohibited in most areas that were affected by the infamous "Caldor fire". Little to my knowledge the Local park rangers "authorities " paid us a visit after we had been camping for free going on two weeks. They said that even tho the signs at the beginning of the entrance to the park stated that we MAY enter upon own risk due to fire damaged woods well this does not apply to happy go lucky campers like ourselves. We were given a appropriate 2 hours to close down shop and pack up our camp and hit the road in our trusty r.v. . So I I almost wanted to lower my star count for this camping adventure in the chard forest but I simply could not. The park rangers of eldorado county were just doing there jobs and having our backs when it comes to safety in this matter. Hopefully soon the red caution tape of our blackened forest falls .Most definitely does the forest i grew up in have a unrecognizable look and feel to it. Nature has a unique way of bringing back what once was and some day this tragic fire will be only a story of past told around the next...
Read moreSouth Lake Tahoe, Tahoe in general, has been my home for over 25 years now. It is a tourist attraction for the most part. But in the winter it is known for it's beautiful Ski Resorts, and amazing ski slopes. The most well known ski slopes is Heavenly Valley. In the summer, you can still see snow capping the gorgeous peaks surrounding you. In the summer everything about Tahoe transforms. It's like coming out of hibernation. That's when you take advantage of the beautiful weather and go hiking, camping, wakeboarding, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, just about anything you want, and it is just as beautiful, if not more beautiful in the summertime. People think that there's nothing to do in Lake Tahoe in the summer, but they are so wrong. For example, this is Meeks Bay, and there is a gorgeous hike that takes you along a small ridge of a mountain with a 300 foot drop off to left-hand side that leads to gorgeous, bright blue, deep, cold, glacier water. If you have never visited Tahoe, North or South, I would highly suggest taking the time to see the beauty that this small tourist attraction...
Read moreCamping there most of my life. Desolation Wilderness, The Rubicon, Granite Chief, Crystal Basin, the divides and the 3 forks of the American so close to Sacramento. Use can be heavy at times but I've never not been able to find an escape. If you are in to off roading the area has plenty of jeep trails that head off to somewhat remote area. If you are into backpacking you are lucky having Desolation Wilderness so close. Its one of the only places in the ENF that has gotten healthier in the 2o years..banned campfires (within the wilderness) Fishing has improved also. Crystal Basin (area north of hwy 50 and directly west of the Crystal Range) is the one if not the most heavily used section of the national Forest system. A lot of board feet roll out of there. The campgrounds tend to be full on the weekends by...
