I arrived at Harmon Canyon Preserve at 2:50pm and it was about 84° it kept heating up until it was a little under 90° and finished around 5:13pm. Doing a total of 6 miles It is pretty difficult to get lost here but I still highly recommend taking a picture of the map they have at the start of the trail. It is an open trail, no cover from trees so take sunscreen!!! My, "hike" started with trail 101, took a left at the fork on the road which led me all the way to the, "No dogs beyond this point" sign. From here, you're forced onto, "Harmon Canyon Road." You'll eventually come to another fork on the road and I took a right here.. getting onto, "Long Canyon Road" and leading to the, "Goldenberg Overlook." From here, I took the one way down path called, "Ropersmith Family Trail." Keep in mind that this one way down trail is shared with mountain bikers so keep an ear out for them!!! Making it back down I decided to take the same trail back to the parking lot.. it was INTENSE! BUUUUUT, WORTH THE BEAUTIFUL VIEWS! All I took was 40oz of water and regretted it! Come pre-hydrated and if you decide to do this during HELL hours, bring at least 72oz of water! Welp, stay safe, respect mama nature, pack it in as well as out, and God...

Very dry and brittle most of the year, but in the Springtime when the grasses are green and there's moisture, it's a lovely spot. A GREAT place for a quick, short hike that is close enough for most East End Ventura residents. The parking lot is large enough to fit most cars... beware that someone has attempted robbery in my vehicle and stole a wallet out of a friend's car. LOCK AND ALARM your vehicle. All the visitors (I've met), are polite and respectful: cyclists, hikers, dog walkers and families with small children. Cyclists are required to place bells on their handlebars so you can hear them coming, before you are upon them (or they are upon you!) The farther back you go, the more steep the climb. You can do a relaxing 15 min trail hike, or a more rigorous 2 hour hike amongst all the trail extensions. Best of all, there's a large group of docents that contribute time for trail development/maintenance, and knowledge (trail tips & tours). Not wheelchair accessible or friendly... but then, most hiking spots rarely are. Overall I rank it high most notably for the fantastic ACCESS. This is a relatively new trail system for...

Harmon canyon is truly an amazing wonder right now. Exploding with color. The hills are alive, vibrant with wildflowers. Birds singing. Mother nature at her best. This includes lots of snakes. Beware. Our dog was bitten by a rattlesnake this week. We got her emergency care quick. Anti-venom infusion saved her and she is recovering.

We love hiking with our girl! She had her rattlesnake vaccines and this made a big difference in her not having complications. If you haven't already, be sure you get your pup vaccinated and hold them close to you on these...

This is one of my favorite hikes in Ventura. There is a dirt parking lot with a porta potty. You can choose to hike here or ride a mountian bike. No e-bikes allowed. You can choose so many different paths! There is a large main path that most people hike. There are some benches along the path to take a sit. Off the main path are single track hikes. I’ve hiked to the top a couple of times and it’s so beautiful. As of May 2023 it’s closed around half up the trail. I just took my son and there is water in the creek bed. They even have Tadpoles right now!

One of my go to hiking spots in Ventura. It has several trails at different difficulty levels. Trails for mountain biking, trails for kids, trails for someone looking for a decent challenge. Great views of Ventura. It is at its peak during the spring with lots of wildflowers, birds, bees and butterflies. I’ve come across the occasional rattle snake so just be aware when hiking on hot days. There isn’t a ton of shade so make sure to bring lots of water. Ther are a good handful of old oak trees down in the canyon that offer a cooler stroll.
