Hart Park is my favorite retreat, my home away from home. It is only minutes - yet a world away - from town. There is a lake in the middle, with an island, and the river runs past the park. There are so many birds, both water birds, including ducks, geese, herons, egrets, cormorants and coots, and non-water birds, including peacocks, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, a flock of parakeets, and a host of others that I don't know the names of. There is a guy circling the island on a paddle board this morning. Once I saw a beaver, I think - all I could see was its eyes and brown forehead above the water as it swam by in the early morning. That was one sighting in 40-plus years of coming out here. There are tree squirrels, ground squirrels, raccoons, skunks - which you might be surprised to see, as I was, emerging from holes in the ground, and cats. Lots of cats, which are fed daily by the Cat People. Once I saw a coyote, which was tailing me and my very large dog until I pointed my walking stick at it and told it to leave us. The only unnatural sounds that mar the peace out here are occasional cars that drive through, especially on weekends, with their music blasting, and gunshots from the shooting range. Why they have a shooting range in a park I don't know, but I hate it. My current dog won't even get out of the car, stays hunkered down on the floor because that sound scares her so badly, so I don't bring her out here anymore. It can get really busy on holidays and weekends, so I don't usually come out here then, but early weekday mornings are the best, the closer to sunrise the better. It is so beautiful and peaceful.

Hart park is great! We go every other week and most of the time with our dogs and all that we have had. Hikes and trails are awesome for example through mountains which.may take a while and also with bike trails which makes family an I enjoy. Our dogs love it there and sometimes enjoy chasing squirles which come out very often now, skunks and cats. It's and amazing place to do a family and friend(s) BBQ and enjoy fresh air. Getting in the river is also great, my dogs love to cool off in it and so do we humans. We go very often and has been the only park we have gone to for over 5 years and is such a great place to go wherever you want free time but will get crowded during the weekend and summer. I have nothing negative to say other than peie tend to litter diapers, cans food and in general trash. Hart park is a very friendly area, and are even kind wnought to feed the stray cats which I find kind. What was an odd experience just a few days was a horse on the other side of the river we encountered. We don't know whether it was real and dead but we believe it was most likely a prob that fell off the cliff because the legs were so straight and there weren't any flies, at least from what I saw. We even found berries which we believe we're raberries or blackberries! But I don't really trust the so much. Anyways it's great besides people not cleaning up after themselves and littering.

This park has everything one could wish for when libing in a city. It is very close to town, yet it feels like you are far away... secluded and in a real nature. It has beautiful small lakes one can fiah in or swim in, surrounded by grasses and plants, well kept lawns with lots of large mature trees of many kind, including nut trees.and fruit trees and evergreens. One can forage and see wildlife along with the cat community. :-). It is located by the bank of Kern River, so it gives it a real out-of-town wildlife feel. There are multiple playgrounds for families with small children, benches, and barbecues for picknicks in this park. The wntire park is also engineered and built as a disc golf playground! Which is pretty awesome! There is a renobated visitor center and natural museum. Ot is a really fun place to bring your family and friends. In early morning hours, there are some people doing their workouts and enjoying the fresh air and peacefulness.

Hart Park is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy some time outdoors year-round. Whether you're out for a relaxing day or an active adventure, this park has something for everyone. My favorite time to visit is during the fall, when the trees are absolutely stunning, providing a perfect backdrop for any activity. Thereâs so much to do here â you can take a leisurely walk with your dog, have a family BBQ, or even float in the river on a warm day. The park also offers fishing spots, frisbee golf, hiking trails, and biking paths. For those who just want to enjoy nature, interacting with the ducks or relaxing by the water adds a peaceful touch. No matter what youâre in the mood for, Hart Park has it all! The only downside is the overwhelming cat population, which the city has yet to address. It would be great if they took steps to manage this issue, as it detracts from the overall experience.

Incredible park. Terrible awful neighbors. Hart park is wonderful. It has many trails, ponds, playgrounds, and picnic facilities. The nature and wildlife is extremely quaint. Squirrels, ducks, geese, and raccoons as well as the occasional heron populate the area. However, do not expect to experience a tranquil time at the park. There is a police shooting range maybe 100 meters from the entrance of the park and the gunfire is loud. Your pet will almost certainly panic and any bird watching is going to be interrupted by gun shots. I understand that officers need to qualify so donât expect a relaxing environment. I was here on the morning of 12/5/24 between 8:30 and 9 and I counted at least 30 gunshots in that time period. Visitors be warned. See video to observe the close proximity to the shooting range.
