This Petroglyph is an amazing Find and the Location is also extremely significant. All the area of Hemet, Perris and other low lying areas were covered by water as part of system of lakes that went down to the Ocean. The Hemet Maze Rock location is the place where the water level was marked and the Spot was a very well protected Port and maybe a settlement of fishermen or sailors lived There. This location was so important that the carvers or carver took months and possibly years to complete. Plus the symbols used were also of high significance. I have been studying this petroglyph since 2001. This location as is a likely a settlement from about 6,500 to about 10,500 YEARS OLD. Older than the pyramids of Egypt. Possibly the First wave of settlers or migrants from Asia. The Maze Stone is also a map. It has an incredible amount of information all in a bunch of symbols put together to communicate to us thousands of years later about this place. This carving is telling us how important it was . Also because of its strategic litlocation has location tells...

Every time I go it's a new understanding of ancient life from what looks like a meteor strike or a sun flare and a moment of the area being lifted up and sat back down as if for moment of weightlessness occured and was rearranged in no particular order defying logic but a little bit of burning hay could have given this effect? But see it before it gets swallowed up by more digestible theories the stone etching is not the same as it was a 100 years ago the most early pics it looked like it was done by a laser almost perfect but since just before it's move vandals or bluebookers changed it's destination story and after it's arrival . The stone is great but the surrounding landscape iny opinion is the real portal experience irregardless of the so called historians and it's one of five in the southwest region and many more around the globe. Google earth took to one without a location but it might as well been on...

If your into history like I am, this place gets a 5 star rating. The story behind the "Hemet" Maze stone and the rest of these stones around So. Cal. Is pretty cool. Its just a shame that its all fenced off and you can't really get a good look at it. Its obvious that it had to be to keep it preserved and safe from vandals. It really is a shame that some people can't just appreciate things without having to destroy them. Still a worth while visit in my books though. The scenery throughout the valley was really beautiful. I strongly recommend going during the spring time when everything is so green and in bloom (maybe not if your allergies are really active), being from the desert it was a real treat for me. Expect a little uphill hike to get to it from where you park too. About .25 of a mile or so and parking is on the street where the road is blocked off so there's not much room...

A somewhat unique historical monument of a maze sketched/carved into a large boulder or rock. The rock is located just a few miles from the main highway and is just a short 1/4 mile hike from the parking area. The boulder is located behind two fences though so it is a little more difficult to see and that is really all that is out here. Only worth seeing if passing through the city of Hemet and want to make a small detour.

Not a bad stroll up to the stone. The fencing is a shame but I guess if it keeps people from (idiotically) defacing something this old and unique then we'll just have to have it. Taggers have gotten to some rocks at the head of the short trail. If you like desert and a short stroll to view something pretty unique, it's well worth it. On a clear day there are some really nice scenic views.

This place makes for a nice short hike on pavement or longer if you decide to go down one of the unmarked dirt trails. The maze stone is about 5 - 10 min walk (depending on speed) up hill, to your right, not far off the pavement. The further up you walk, the more beautiful the views. But always look out for snakes. Have seen a couple rattlesnakes here over the years, even on the main path.
