Hirschmans Pond has become a very popular place in the last few years. I have been walking here for years / decades (decades ouch)! It is a lovely, short, fairly easy walk / hike around a small lovely pond. There has been a lot of trail work done in resent years and it's got a great easy trail to follow. I love Hirschmans Pond for those days you want a simple, quick and easy walk that you don't have to drive far too, but you feel like you've gotten out of town for a bit. Hirschmans is not an all day adventure, nor it is a serious "Hike", but it's fun for a morning or afternoon walk, a nice picnic with friends or family and its' a great place for the kids. Lot's of different types of trees, a great variety of mini environments, forest, meadows, marshy places and all kinds of different tree bark for learning and comparing tree types, a touch of wildlife, of course lots of birds and insects all over, you can see fish jump occasionally and sometimes if you sit quietly the turtles will peek out. The rock formations and old rocks are a hoot. Yes parts of the trail do run along Hwy 49 so you will hear car traffic in some places along the trail, there are also private residences along the trail so it's important to be respectful. Parking spaces are limited, but honestly I have never really had parking issues and if need be you can park elsewhere in the area and walk to the trail head. No restrooms (at least last time I was there a few weeks ago) so GO,...

Absolutely walk this trail! There's a little parking lot at the trail head with bathroom. The trail itself was wide for 2 people to walk alongside or passing hikers. There's tons of shade you won't get baked by the sun. There are makers on the trail letting you know how far you have walked. Information boards along the way. Wonderful scenery to look at and plenty of rocks to look at. The pond itself is gorgeous and peaceful. The trail is easy to navigate. This is a family oriented trail, with dogs on their leash. Bring...

Really enjoy the trail, the pond and surrounding hydraulic diggins. Been fishing bluegill and lunker bass here for years. Did not enjoy; LOTS of dog feces on and around the trail. Trash left behind by vagrants and inconsiderate visitors. 2 van fulls of apparent "travelers" retrofitting new insulation for their van. Conveniently in Nevada County for the fall, dreadlocks and all. Hopefully the will find "work" and...

Nice little out and back trail. Round trip is approximately 4.8 miles and the elevation gain around 540 feet. The pond is beautiful. There is a lot of wildlife to see. We saw a couple of the herons but I’m sure as we get closer to spring the ducks will be out. The trail is very well maintained but can be a little sloppy after a rain. There are lots of moss covered boulders, which happens to be one of my favorite things😊
