It’s really beautiful. Our wonderful firefighters saved it a couple few years ago. But there are no camp hosts or law enforcement in the evenings or on weekends, so it’s like the Wild West: dangerous levels of bacteria in the potable water, kids chopping down trees, rude campers, weed smell, loud music, partying, and talking until 12:45 a.m., boats racing on the lake at midnight, a handgun discharged at 2 a.m., people walking through campsites, dogs roam through campsites, and no toilet paper for days on end. Even though they tell us to lock food up, the park service doesn’t pick up garbage regularly, so it spills out all over—watermelons, bread, etc. all exposed for the bears, which frequent all three campgrounds regularly. They are putting campers at risk for bear confrontations. Granted, campers should take their trash with them if the cans are full, to protect people and bears. The roads are a mess, pavement 1/8” thick so they’re full of potholes. They don’t open the campgrounds until July because they are unwilling to repair them quickly from...

I was a bit hesitant about the Dotta Fire. I had a plan B just in case. I didn’t see or smell any smoke when we arrived or the entire time we were there. The lake was low, but it was great to swim in. The water was warm and very enjoyable. Our campsite was spacious. We stayed in Red Feather Campground and drove around to the Little Beaver campground next door. There was PLENTY of FCFS spots for a 4th of July weekend. The small little town of La Port is about a 10 minute Drive away and we drove over for Ice and to check our emails (I know I know). Bears visited every night, so we all woke up from 11pm to 3am from campers scaring them away. Our first night, one came and was pounding on our bear box until it was scared away. My 10 MO pup didn’t bark at all 😂. This was our first time venturing outside of the Tahoe NTL Forest, and I must say we will be back to explore more camps in the...

We love this camping area! It’s truly one of our favorites.

You’re camping right on the water 🙌🏼🙌🏼. Pack all of your water toys, lol, they have a dock station. Kids also love to jump off of it.

You can kayak to such great scenery. The water is clear!!!!!! Very clear

There are restrooms right next to the camping areas. Take some water shoes because the rocks hurt your feet.

There is plenty of fishing there. It gets chilly so pack accordingly. There are no stores nearby so pack your food and snacks!

Lock up your food.We haven’t experienced any bears at our sites but others reported so.

It’s such a great...

The lake is so blue and clear. It is peaceful to sit and watch the water ripple in and out. Middle of September the days are warm and the nights are chilly. The Canada geese fly down in the evenings...I love to hear their honking. The squirrels and chipmunks are busy scurrying around and cute as ever. This year we were surprised by a severe storm of rain and hail on our last morning camping...so always come prepared for a sudden change in weather if going middle of September.
