I have visited this local winery on numerous occasions over the years. It is nice to have a place that offers wine tasting so close to home. The wines are drinkable for the most part, and the staff has always been friendly and welcoming.
This past Sunday it was so sunny and lovely out, we thoght it would be nice to sit outdoors somewhere and enjoy the beautiful spring-like weather. We decided to go to Lucca instead of heading up to Knights Ferry because our 6 month old shelter rescue had been experiencing some car sickness on windy roads, but was fine on the straightaway. It is still a twenty five minute drive for us. But it was so pretty with all the almonds in bloom.
We arrived and settled in at a table outdoors. A gentleman came out and took our tasting order. I mentioned that their wooden sign now had " no pets" scrawled on it...... and asked if our docile, well - behaved chihuahua/Pug pup was welcome. " Oh, yeah he's ok. " , he said. Then , Mark, the owner came out and told us we had to leave. I said I was not aware that they had adopted a no pet policy and asked if we could stay just for todaysince we had already driven out there. I offered to hold my pup on my lap. " No. I'm sorry", he said. " Why?", I asked. " Because we have dogs. Winery dogs." Apparently he has dog-aggresive winery dogs he can't control. Great idea. Guess they can't be kept away from guests and their dogs the few hours the winery is open on the weekends. Okay. You want them to be able to have the run of their own place all the time. I get it. And I would have known not to bring my dog going forward. .
But to make customers leave - when they are already there, and weren't aware of the new policy - is rude, and unfair.

Read moreGreat wines. Great people. Just be prepared for a tasting - don't go on an empty stomach, and bring a designated driver. Tasting 23 wines that are upwards of 18% alcohol is a bit much. I'm not saying they should change anything, just that those visiting should be prepared to enjoy themselves safely.
I truly appreciate being able to taste everything they had available, since it's how I (and most others) decide what and how many to purchase.
All estate wines. Lots of blends. It's apparent the owner/winemaker really likes mourvedre, since it's used in many of the wines.
I'm a fan of cabernet franc, and I'm always thrilled to find a winery that makes a 100% cab franc, and Lucca makes a fantastic one for a very...

Very informative great conversation an such kind spirits. Thanks again you guys for such a warm welcoming an great tasting wine. May God continue to bless an expand...
