Beautiful campground! Stayed in site #87 and it was great. No coverage and wide open to our neighbor but it didn't make much of a diff. If you're camping with a large group but not big enough to stay in the group site, stay in 87 & to one next to it - sorry I'm not sure what the other site # was.

Close proximity to a beautiful beach - it was VERY rough while we were there and not swimmable. I don't know if it calms down. It must, but I don't know if its seasonal. Showers are available, but not free and you have to go through the annoying process of getting tokens from the camp host. They might take quarters - but it looked like you needed a lot. Love when showers are available, especially that close to tye beach when you're going to get sandy and salty. But hate when you have to pay. Just charge an extra buck or two to camp.

Only about a 5-10 minute drive to town. This was my first visit to Ft. Bragg, and I'll just say that I'm glad I was camping. Seems to me that the best part about FB is its close proximity to Mendo. FB just doesn't seem to have much to offer. A couple of cute shops, coffee and mediocre restaurants.

I'll mention one sort of uncomfortable interaction we had with a ranger...the Reserve California site makes it unclear that when you add a car, you haven't paid for that car. So when the ranger came to say good morning (though we arrived by 4, the booth was already empty, so we couldn't get our parking passes) it wasn't to say good morning it was to collect $ for the extra car. He was WAY to "Sir who does this car belong to? And when we told him we thought we paid, he said he was aware of the confusing R.C. website when it came to cars. He chilled out a bit at that point, but a little training on customer interaction would be helpful here. I don't think the park service trains employees to interact with campers/customers in a way that begins by creating a defensive and...

beautiful park. donated by mr mackerricher with the intent of never charging anyone to visit the beach. (too bad the state decided to charge for camping) but is anything really free anymore? Update. The park has revamped it's restrooms. They look modern all redone and more private and personal since they are no longer group space but individual spaces for showers and toilets . Some of the locald that used to shower here might find it difficult since it now requires tokens instead of quarters. I assume due to vigilante behavior. Picnic area is a great family fun getaway and you can bring your pets as long as they stay on a leash being the horses have a trail through the park you wouldn't want your animal to cause or become a problem right? Beautiful place and somehow the state has added miles of preserve to it now included all the way to ten mile preserve. Although no camping or dogs are allowed in the sand dunes. Or motorized vehicles, the state has been issuing felony's for such behavior. I assume to gain more money to buy more property for this beautiful park! But please beware there are areas of the dunes patrolled by drones whenever fish and game sees someone riding on them. And they will prosecute maximum penalties up to 3 years! Come here for vacation and don't leave your...

We love coming to this park along the Mendocino coast, just north of Fort Bragg, california.

There's a boardwalk, and there are some waiting pools.Though you should be cautious of rogue waves. This is not a myth. They will sneak up on you if you turn your back on the ocean and can drag you out to sea. There are also a few cliffs to be careful of. In addition to the boardwalk, there are a few trails into the woods and also a bike path that goes all the way back to the town of Fort Bragg.

You can spot whales from the boardwalk and other sea mammals, as well as birds. On a clear day, you can see ape Mendocino to the north, which is the westerly, most point of the continental United States. Cape Mendocino is located along the Lost Coast of California.

This is a really beautiful place and super for kids. There are picnic benches near the parking lot. As well as places to sit along the boardwalk. It can be a bit windy from time to time.

There is a parking lot that can fill up on a crowded day but not too far away back on the road, there is a bigger lot near the pond. You can bring your dogs, but they must...

MacKerricher State Park: A Coastal Gem for anyone who loves stunning coastal landscapes and diverse wildlife. It is along the Mendocino Coast, and has something for you if you are a an avid hiker, a wildlife enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. This coastline is breathtaking. waves crash against the dramatic rocky outcrops, and tide pools teem with life. You can walk along the boardwalk to Laguna Point, and there is expansive ocean views. The trails here are well-maintained and cater to various fitness levels. The Ten Mile Dunes are perfect for a serene hike, offering a unique ecosystem to explore. For wildlife lovers, the park is a paradise. Birdwatchers will enjoy spotting a variety of species, and the wetlands are home to a rich diversity of plant and animal life. The tide pools, in particular, are a hit with kids and adults alike, offering a close-up view of sea stars, crabs, and other marine creatures. I just love California's natural beauty, Don't forget your camera—this park is as photogenic as it is memorable!

I have been going here since 1981 and it just keeps gettong better. Interpretive signage for indigenous peoples, plants and animals are along the boardwalk trail to Laguna Point where you can see the seals and whale watch. There are stairs down to tide pools and places to sit along the trail. There is fishing allowed in the stocked lake with proper license if you are required to have one. The trail around the lake is very nice but difficult on the east side if wet weather has made some slick mud. Look for giant peanutbutter spiders with their beautiful orb webs on the tops of the vegitation. CAUTION: Poison Oak is rampant along this trail so don't brush against vegetation (the stems will deposit oils even when mo leaves are present). Bathrooms are privy style and smelly but fairly clean considering the type of facility and are located at both parking lots. Bring binoculars for some awesome birding oportunitues!
